You can be taught to punch with greater technique and better power... but the fact is that although somebody who is not a natural puncher can improve... so can somebody who already is a natural puncher.
Some people's proportions, muscle fibre make up, bone density... what ever it is simply means that they won't be massive punchers...
Some guys aren't built and don't grow that way and some guys just aren't wired that way or don't have the mentality... what ever it is: sure, you can develop things... but you can only build on top of the foundations that are already there.
Ali could NEVER punch as hard as Foreman possibly could if both of them were trained specifically and perfectly for power and Foreman could never be as fast as Ali possibly could if they were both trained specifically and perfectly for speed.
That is wrong is so many ways, it would take a book to refute. If your coach really believes that, I would find me another coach....if punchers are born, why would they need a coach like him?
your oach is like most coaches, an ex-fighter that never made it to the real big time as a coach. he don't know jack about what he is saying. power comes from correct body alignment and making sure each move doesn't bleed energy away from the desired task. simple to say hard to self -analyze. find a better coach. on a side note great thing to tell someone that is going to get into a ring where homicide is legal and mess with his head...good job. drop him like a toilet seat
I agree with it is taught and generated correctly in an order but I was just thinking about two fellows I knew years ago they could hit like a ton a bricks no training at all. They were what i would term heavy boned ,not much meat on them but you could see they were both big underneath both had massive reach too and big hands.
Maybe a larger heavier frame helps generate some more power? One was 6.2 the other only 5 .11 both very lean. One I saw hit a bloke from the footpath and the bloke ended up over the white line in the middle of the road on his ass. The other one knocked a bloke clean over the bonnet of a car as in not touching the car. None were knockouts though
, but the two victims didnt want to continue.
I think the phrase "Punchers are born" dosent really mean some people are born with the mechanics to throw a hard punch and others are not. To me it seems more like some people can understand how to use proper mechanics to generate alot of power while others cant figure out the mechanics. So its more understanding how to generate power than just not being born with the ability.
Also, as with everything in life, some people are naturally better than others at something such as generating punching power. Just like others are naturally faster or more coordinated or whatever.
