Just read the article on the front page about the Ward-Abraham press confrence. Arreola was there too, checking out the picture he's looking slimmer and he still has about a 1 1/2 months to go. It seems like every fight he says that he realizes he needs to take training more serious, yada yada yada. This time he may actually mean it. I don't think he will ever be a elite HW, but do you guys think he can get back somewhat?

Sam Peter went through a fat phase and came out of it a better fighter in better shape and having better conditioning. Arreola is a different story to me, while he does have a chance at coming back, I think he was so fat he's going to lose his chin with the weight and he might lose some of his pop as well. He was an amateur at light heavyweight....and he fought in the pros at the highest level of competition (vs Vitali) at 250 or there abouts. I think Arreola could be a contender again, but I just don't see him being what he was supposed to be.

For me, even if he got into great shape, he would have never lived upto (some of) the hype he was getting. He is too much of a tough guy brawler type to reach the very top IMO. His skills are not polished enough to resort to boxing his way to victory against a Vitali level boxer!

Will he go down as an all time great? No! However If he can take his conditioning seriously and train how he should I will give him a chance against anyone on the heavyweight scene. This would give him the conditioning to go along with his heart which IMO is more than enough combined with his size to pick up some sort of belt.
If you think you can......you can, if you think you can't .......you're right!

Arreolla could weigh 220 for every fight of his career and he would not win any more or less than he does now . He has a skill issue not a weight one . He's never took a round off and had never looked tired in s fight including while being bombed on by vitali. Him focusing on his weight is probably hurting him if anything . More time shouldbe focused on better game planning .

So you don't think he'd be a better fighter if he was in good shape? Astonishing.

I think if he lost weight it would be easier for him to game plan...he could move his head without tiring, being slow, or making himself off balance. He could punch in combinations as he did to start his career. He could move better.....losing weight COULD help him, keyword COULD

I have to admit to chuckling when I read the thread title.

If chris arreola was anything close to being serious about his boxing career he'd be fighting at cruiser.

Well to be honest he's probably made more money as a fat heavyweight, but yeah, he probably shouldn't have strayed too far from 210-220 to begin with.

I disagree. Arreola was a light heavyweight as an amateur. He's a heavyweight now. He's like David Haye in that respect. He should weigh in for fights at approximately 230.

Supposedly thats about where he's at right now. He says he's lost 20-30 lbs, and his last fight he was about 250.

I can't see it really. It's not that long since his last fight and I don't have him down as a crash diet kind of guy. I reckon he'll come in for his next fight above 240 anyway!
