If Daley were to catch any boxer with them 4oz gloves on, he would drop them, he has stupid power in those hands.

I do take ya point that Diaz got caught, but put bigger gloves on Diaz, and bear in mind he would only be defending against punches, then his stance and defence would be alot different. If Diaz can get back up to KO Daley, then I have little fear he would take a one of Lacy's shots.
he probly would take one or two

at anywhere near the top level tho he would lose in a boxing ring i reckon seen as though it is his first fight, after 20 fights he may be able to hack it, he might start a little higher up the ladder than someone who has had no professional fight experience

it all depends on how near the top level lacy still is, i for one hope Lacy wins easily but i am a boxing fan

Im a fan of both sports, so can appreciate what a MMA fighter would have to do to make the transition, and vice versa.

Im not saying Diaz would win, not at all, but he did train boxing as his first form of combat, he just evolved into MMA. He has skills, the skills would need to be polished up, but as ya say, how far gone is Lacy now ? Now harm in trying ya hand at the sport if he feels he can mix it then why not

    How's that like ?

Diaz fights at 170lb limit for welterweight in Strikeforce.

Lacy fights about the same, 168-172lb in recent fights

I mean height wise. Diaz is about 6 ft 2, Lacy is only 5 ft 9. Wiki lists him as 5ft 10 but that's optimistic I think.

He was relatively small for super middle relying on muscle to bulk up his frame. Diaz weighs the same with his natural frame even though he looks skinny. Put muscles on Diaz and he'd probably be around 190 lbs.

Not saying he wins the fight because of this but the way Jeff has looked lately an tall, rangy fighter with long arms might be a problem.

I really don't know how good Diaz would be as a boxer. Certainly stand up is the main part of his skillset so he transfers to boxing far better than James Toney did to MMA. Of course he won't be as technically able as a top level boxer, but he may have enough to beat Jeff at this stage.

Either way it's a fight I hope neither takes. Beating Jeff Lacy doesn't prove a victory for MMA over boxing as Lacy is no longer relevant to the sport (sadly) and Jeff was too good a fighter before his injury and the Calzaghe beating to be reduced to fighting circus sideshows against a Strikeforce MMA bad boy.

Nick is an awesome MMA fighter, great to watch and I want to see him where he performs best. Jeff, I wish him well but I hope he's able to find a decent paying career outside of boxing.

For those too lazy to look up Diaz's boxing record, he has ONE boxing match in 2005. It was a 4 rounder, and he won a decision against a nobody.

Granted, in the last 6 years, Diaz has improved his boxing skills, sparring at Kings Boxing Gym in Oakland, CA, with Andre Ward and other boxers.

My former trainer, is assistant trainer to Virgil Hunter, Ward's trainer, and he has watched Diaz spar Ward many times. He says Ward could "KO Diaz with his eyes closed", and he absolutely toys with Diaz.

Now more importantly, a tough, club fighter named Fernando Barajas, a super middle boxer, also goes to Kings, has sparred both Nick and Nate Diaz and tore them up as well from what I understand.

So I really just do not see Diaz beating Lacy or Fernando Vargas or any decent pro boxer.

And Bilbo, Diaz is taller than Lacy, but he doesn't walk around at 190 of muscle, Lacy does.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

You guys are drinking the kool aid, Lacy is so far beyond shot and still a one-trick pony he's going to get clobbered. Diaz's boxing skills maybe overrated, but they're good enough to outpoint Lacy.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

The nobody that Diaz beat has a pretty decent record for a first fight. Never stopped in his career, only ever lost to unbeaten fighters with perfect records. Went the 6 round distance with Andre Dirrell in his final fight and and looks like he won at least one round on every card 58-55 all cards.

So it looks like Diaz in his first fight beat a decent trialist that only ever lost to undefeated prospect fighters.

To the guy who said Diaz stance was awful, you do realise he's fighting MMA right? You can't have the same stance as in boxing as you'd be wide open to take downs, kicks and everything else.

He fights in boxing he will have a stance appropriate for boxing.

I'm not saying he beats Lacy or Vargas here. I'm just saying he's a great MMA striker and the only way to denigrate his boxing prospects is by presumption.

He might be very good. We don't really know yet.

This kid is supposedly in his prime, scared of no one, MMA has no one for him to fight, he is unhappy with his purses so now he want's to be a boxer? I have seen most of his televised bouts, he has some good handskill but different boxing dirty then professional boxing.

Maybe he would succeed nicely in Pro Boxing? I think if he is looking to make noise, he is attempting to show from day one he will be an issue to those holding titles then we do not call out Jeff Lacy or Fernando Vargas. How about a top ten contender or even a champion?

How would Nick fare against Bute, Ward, Pavlik, Pascal, Cloud or even Hopkins in a standup bout of hands? Can't slip them into a rear naked, can catch an armbar, no heel hooks.

Nick either fight or don't fight we need nothing less then a loudmouth who goes about fighting men past their best by years.
