Don't jump down my back for assuming Box Rec always has the facts straight. But......they do have Floyd and Victor fighting on the 17th in Cowboys Stadium. Please tell me why Cowboys Stadium? Isn't this Arum's turf? And Victor and Floyd aren't connected or going to do favors for Arum. Anyone have any ideas?

One thing for sure: I could hardly get excited by the idea of that fight.

Why not? It's a great matchup and Ortiz is one of the most exciting fighters around.

Do you believe in the invincibility of Floyd Mayweather or something? He's only fought twice in 3 years and would have been 18 months out of the ring by the time that fight took place.

Unless you assume he's some kind of super human and judge him differently from all other fighters how could you possibly make the case that this is an unintersting routine comeback fight for him?

If he comes back after 18 months and goes straight to fighting Ortiz that would be a big risk.

My issue with this is not that Floyd is fighting Ortiz but the timing of the announcement for the fight. He did this by revealing his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez the day before the Pacquiao-Hatton fight. The question that was brought up then (and I'm sure will be brought up again) was why he didn't wait for the conclusion of the Pacquiao fights and then fight Pac. Oh, the Ortiz bout is supposed to be a tune-up fight, just like the JMM fight. How many tune-up fights is he planning to do?

Exactly, he should be fighting Manny. Ortiz is more than a tune up, but nobody is demanding it.

Agreed, the is only one fight out there for Floyd.

Once again Floyd helping his bank balance out with another easy win.

Ortiz is a good fighter, but thats all he is. He doesnt have enough to de-throne Floyd and take his 0.

If this fight comes off then I really don't see this being a very difficult fight for Mayweather. He thrives on aggressive fighters coming at him so he can counter. Ortiz is too green still.

I dont have a problem with this fight. People were on about Pac man should be fighting Berto instead of Mosley. Ortiz just beat Berto in a great fight, and if the fight comes off, Floyd gets stick.

Would be a good warm up fight Ortiz is big and strong with a decent punch and is a southpaw like Manny.

Say what you want about this, but it's a hell of a lot more legit than Pac/Mosley. Ortiz is a good young fighter, arguably in his prime and riding a huge win. Mosley was outclassed by Mayweather and put up such a horrible performance against Mora that even the biggest Mosley fans believe he's washed up.

I honestly feel Mosley would have beaten up Berto to. Ortiz deserves the big fight.....Mayweather needs to stop jerking his fans around I believe.

Hate the idea of this fight, despite being a Mayweather fan. Getting tired of the run around. Point blank, its a foregone conclusion that Mayweather wants to pick Ortiz clean of his title. While I don't think that Ortiz should be protected, He's the type of fighter that Boxing needs with a title right now. A guy that stepped up to a challenge worked on his game, found his heart and was rewarded richly for it.
Mayweather right now is not what boxing needs.. he gets the belt which is enough to keep him in a pound for pound running while he retires with it and sits around idle for another few months, talking crap from behind a webcam. I'd be in no rush to see this ones.. given how this waters down everything even further. Sorry Floyd, wake me when you're serious about sticking around or making a statement besides "Hi remember me?"
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Well, it was a tune up to Pacquiao untill Manny shit his pants at the thought of drug testing. So he took on the same fighter that Manny is having to dust down as an opponent over a year later

Although I understand Manny's position in not giving in to Floyd's demand in the first negotiation, I had wished that he just called in the bluff for I really do not think that Mayweather wants to fight him. This was revealed in the second negotiation. What is Floyd's excuse in that negotiation ..... that he is going on vacation? THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO NEED FOR A TUNE-UP IF HE AGREED TO FIGHT THEN!!! Floyd scheduling a fight a few days before a Pacquiao fight gives him an excuse for people not to clamor that he fights Pacquiao.
