Default Genaro Hernandez nearing the end

Just read this, he's terminated his treatment for the disease & is paralyzed from the waist down.

Genaro Hernandez losing battle with cancer | RingTV

Really tragic, he was an excellent fighter, only lost to Oscar above his natural weight & against Floyd Mayweather Jr in his final fight. He was the WBC & lineal Super-Featherweight champ before that defeat and had beaten the likes of Azumah Nelson, Raul Perez & Jorge Paez.

As a person he seems even better than he was a fighter, full of honesty & the kind of attitude that we love in boxers. I remember hearing him talking on a international broadcast of some fight & they asked him why he quit boxing after the PBF fight & he said 'I always boxed because I wanted to be the best, in that fight I realized I wasn't & why would I lie to myself & the fans when I knew that'.

A real quality guy & fighter, I can only send my thoughts to him & his family.

Very sad. For some reason I was under the impression he was doing better.

I must have heard that he was in remission but obviously it can always come back and if it does you're in big trouble. Sad stuff.

I am not a religious man, but if any of you are, please say a prayer for him and hope that his remaining time is as peaceful as possible under the circumstances.
feel for him and his family.

Cancer touches so many lives. Hopefully by the time some of us (and our kids) are Hernandez's age, a cure is found for many of the forms of cancer that take so many too early.

    CRAP! CRAP CRAP!

I thought he was doing better too.

Chiconito was a fine fighter and is, by all accounts, a better man.

Surviving the late shot by Azumah to win his title said a lot about him.

Have a lot of respect for Genaro he grew up in East LA like I did.
He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School like I did.
Had a chance to meet him on two occasions and a real nice guy.
I wish him all the best and hope he fights back like he knows how.
    God bless...

A real shame. It was when facing Hernandez that I first realised Mayweather was quite a special talent. But there was so much more to him than that. Remember how he dealt with Raul Perez after the TD? Also how he wrestled the belt from Azumah Nelson, showing some of that famous hispanic "Machismo". I was also surprised at how easily he dealt with another Hernandez in Carlos (the only man to deck Mayweather).

When we look back at his record and see he only ever lost 2 fights and then look who they were against you realise this guy was a very capable fighter and I have no doubt that fight is still going to be as strong in him until his last day with us. From that day on he will be missed!

Very sad news. I thought he was beating cancer too. Anyways a quality fighter and looks to be a quality guy outside of the ring.

My father in law had encountered the same turn of events, he was dead within three months. I hope his family & loved ones are realistic about the situation and are there for him.

kinda hitting me hard, cause i just found out that a good friend of mine also has to go round 2 against cancer, he had stomach cancer and ended up cancer free, sadly he hadn't been feeling well the last few days and went to the doctor, they told him it was pneumonia starting up but wasn't serious but sent him to do a Catscan, turns out he had markings on his lungs (he never was a smoker), well last night they confirmed our fears that it once again was cancer, i know it might be asking a lot but i'm gonna say a prayer for both Genaro and my good friend, and if it's not too much i'd like to ask all of you to do the same, God Bless

Great post mate, although being pedantic I'd have to point out Carlos didn't drop PBF, he took a knee because he'd broke his hand. That said, I'd forgotten about his fight with Carlos Hernandez. Hell, he made easier work of him imo than either Floyd or Morales did. From what I understand he's gone home because he'd rather die with his wits about him with his family than out of his mind on drugs in a hospital. I've a personal bitch that he's not even had his name on an ibhof ballot. Granted he may not get in, but he deserves a nomination.

ElTerrible, really sorry to hear about your friend bro, my thoughts are with him man.
