the thing is Max Kellerman was 100% right, Sergio Martinez had the WBC Middleweight title, was stripped and it was handed to Zbik so that Chavez could fight him and finally have a shot at a strap without risking his 0 against the REAL champion, Chavez picked up Martinez's left overs, a belt that was stolen from him out of the ring with no real reason
Yea sure Martinez is the linear title holder which most view as the most credible but come on man! that was no easy fight for JCC Jr. and his 0 was at risk. I don't think Martinez ever fought Zbik, so how can it be leftovers? Do you hate JCC Jr. that much? Now isn't it that Martinez is the next mandatory defense for JCC Jr. or is the a box off for that interim/silver thingy before there is a mandatory? I happen to think it would be better if anyone is to be called Champion over a weight-class that should beat all the major title holders. In other words I think it would be better if only the unified title holder should be called champion.
Martinez held the WBC Middleweight title after he beat Pavlik, the lineal champion, and was stripped for no reason other so that Chavez Jr could win a "world" title, if Chavez Jr really wanted the WBC title he should have fought it's rightful owner in Sergio Martinez, it's not a coincidence that Sulaiman is best friends with Chavez Sr, and if you want to go by your little explanation of what a champion is, then Pacquiao shouldn't be considered champion at 154, 147, 140, 135, hell not even at 130, he never unified any division, the same ideology should apply to everyone
The critera would apply to ALL fighters not just Pacquiao and JCC jr.

I mean he's lost his last 3 fights. It's the danger that he fucks up his gig with HBO through this that worries me.
IMO the perfect moment for Jones to walk away was after the Lacy fight, he put on a spectacular performance and showed signs of what he once was, and it was in his hometown, perfect ending
The thing that sticks most and shocked me to hear was him saying something along the lines of 'to be my age and to be in the 10th round against a top ranked cruiserweight'...yadda yadda

Nothing like perspective I've come to two conclusions he's either seriously damaged and delusional or he is mentally %100 sharp as a tack but physically shot and a enormous egomaniac. He still calls a fight and handles a camera with the best. If he goes on I just don't feel for him at all. He knows what he's doing and he is lying to his legacy and his fans who appear to give a shit about him more then he does himself.
yea i agree, but when he's commentating he's usually more on spot than not, just wish he'd take off the gloves and stick to holding the mic and staying with the HBO crew

the real thing is it applies to ALL fighters, including Pacquiao and JCC Jr, you're one of the many that love to emphasize on Pacquiao being a "8 weight class champion", but given your definition, he shouldn't even be considered a champion in any of the divisions he fought in cause he never unified ANY OF THEM, your explanation of what a champion should be is utter bullshit dude, Pacquiao and Martinez are both world champions, why? cause they both fought and beat the guy considered #1 at their respective weight classes (Pacquiao at 108 and 130, Martinez at 160), everyone complains about there being too many belts and that the term World Champion is being tossed around too freely, well Chavez Jr is a prime example of it, i don't see how anyone could defend him seeing how FACT is Martinez was stripped of his title with no explanation given when he's considered THE MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, not only the WBC,WBA, IBF, WBO, WBU, IBA, NABF champion, etc. and the only viable explanation for it was for Jr to have a shot at his belt without having to fight Martinez himself, another example of this is Gamboa recently being stripped of his title without any reason other than to give Jonathon Barros (whom Gamboa already beat) the "official" title of WBA "regular" champion, crap like this is just CANCER to the sport, guys like Chavez Jr mooch off of popularity rather than accomplishments, while guys like Martinez and Pacquiao bust their ass to get the recognition due to them then aren't even given praise for a bigger accomplishment in beating the guy who is considered the best in their weight class rather than just collecting straps against the second tier guys

Roy Jones keeps fighting because he's a "big name" and he can still fleece the casual boxing fan out of PPV money for his shitty performances. For Roy, it's all about "dat money", because he hasn't been worth a fuck since he was knocked out by Tarver & Johnson.

BTW, I usually mute the sound when Jones is calling a fight for HBO, I don't wanna hear the garbage that comes out of this clowns mouth.

that's not true his fights against Trinidad and Lacey were plenty entertaining and good showings (although obviously nowhere near his prime and not against world level opposition), and don't know what you're running on about Jones is one of the best commentators out there today, i'd rather hear Jones and Tarver give straight commentary than listen to Lewis spew on about himself and how he would perform if he was the one fighting
