    Default Best fighter you've sparred

For me, Brad Pitt, the heavy that won gold at the Commonwealth Games.
He is currently 8-0 as a pro I believe, I no longer train at the same gym as him.

I got outboxed 5-1 most times, we are both hyper active out fighters.

Who's the best you've spared and how did you go?

Two Golden Gloves 178's when I was at Gleasons.

I had them both outweighed by 25-30 pounds and I just couldn't find them...at all!

They didn't (or chose not to) hit hard enough to hurt or dissuade me, but any time I got close and threw? Woosh! They were somewhere else. It was bad.

I much preferred banging with bigger men...at least I could get my licks in

Back then (late 1980's early 1990's) there were three distinct groups of fighters at Gleason's. The serious top drawer pros (McGirt, , Starling, Glenwood brown, once in a while Tyson etc.), the up and comers
(Sosa, TH Patterson, Mckinney, Golden Gloves level guys etc) and white collar wannabes. I was one of the latter. Believe me, one was VERY careful who they were matched with at sparring time and the protocol on various bags was when things were really busy to defer to the men making a living and go shadow box or jump rope. What always got me were just how gifted some of the guys who never made it were. What I learned was outside the gym stuff matters as much as inside the gym stuff.

I think there was some long time member here who said that he sparred with James Buster Douglas. I can't remember his name.

I don't know who was "the best" I sparred with but cruiserweight Paul Jeanette is who I sparred most often. My very first sparring session was with Clarence Tillman, quite an intimidating figure to be in the ring with 6'5 or so and a solid 280 he was a strong dude.

Oliver McCall used to go to my gym quite a bit and his son may still train around my hometown....I tried my damnedest to make sure I never sparred 'The Atomic Bull'...he's older now but still in great shape, calves like tree trunks, you know that's where the power comes from.

Oh ok. Despite having no idea who chad is, this is still a funny coincidence.

Phil has a gym in the Rye industrial estate and he is an amazing trainer and a great all-round person.

Yep that is where Chad trained, Ive seen it half way around the circle there but never been in.

I cant remember the guys name; Whos the trainer in Rosebud that is a tall dude with long hair, strange looking fellow; he is very good too, a back yarder who has taken a few kids a long way in the sport.
