Default Tyson Fury vs. Joe Mesi (Prime)

Never thought too much of Mesi, but I figure he would have destroyed Fury. Much better boxer and technique. I just do not see what all the fuss is about Fury as he throws terrible arm punches. Has some guts and a cool name, and obviously some stamina to go 12 rounds, but in a battle of white heavyweight fighters I believe Mesi would have KO'd him early.

Yeah for sure.. Mesi was a decent heavyweight for a while, pretty compact puncher with some skills. Your post kind of makes it out to sound like it'd be hard to think of a white Heavyweight that could have beaten Tyson Fury I guess if you really limit it to white heavyweights coming up in the Western world it's not a long list in recent times though.

There are a good number of white heavyweights in recent years that would KO Fury, Andrew Golota and Tommy Morrison instantly spring to mind.

But, white heavyweights are a class all their own, or at least were until the Klitschkos began dominating the heavyweight scene. But they are Russian and from the East.

I feel that Fury gets a lot of press because of his skin color and name. If he were a black man then people wouldn't look twice at him when compared to the rest of the British heavys.

I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this thread.

The UK seems to be a buzz about Tyson Fury and very fascinated with him.

And I just don't see the talent. He has very little.

He's a big goofy looking gypsy named Tyson Fury, of course there's going to be a bit of interest long as he has a pulse. I don't think anyone is hailing his chances as a real contender though, even with how poor the division is. Also Golota is from Poland like Adamek, who would currently stomp Fury as well. This does make you think just how few quality white HW's have come out of North America or the UK in recent years doesn't it. Any who make even a ripple will have a fanbase, just the way it is.

Yes Golota was from Warsaw, Poland, but he fought out of Chicago, IL and was accepted as a great white hope for a while. Til he started his little fixation with Riddick Bowe's balls.

Hell Oleg Maskaev woulda taken Fury's head off.

And yes Fury is a goofy gypsy

Mainly from people that know very little. In terms of World level, Fury isn't even close. People say he has only had 35 fights (Am & pro) but I still can't see him developing into anything other than a British level fighter.

I wasn't a Joe Mesi fan per say, but I appreciated his attitude in and out of the ring. I figured he could have beaten Valuev. Mesi was overrated in skill, but his power was pretty decent. I think his worst attribute was his stamina. Its a shame his career got cut short.

Tyson Fury is a goober, he's not all that skilled he's just big. Michael Grant might beat him today! I've heard they are looking at Deontay Wilder for their next fight...that could be a short night for Tyson.

I reckon you all underate Fury.

Yeah he's just a big lump, throws arm punches, hasn't got a clue how to use his size, but he's got heart and a bloody good chin by the looks of it.

Give him a couple of more learning fights and he may be a semi-decent opponent for Wlad. Imagine a huge guy like Fury with height, weight, reach and heart advantages over Wlad.

Wlad has never faced a bigger man than himself. Fury is young and cocky. He intimidates Wlad. He takes Wlad's righthand. Wlad starts getting bullied. Fury's arm punches start clipping Wlad's chin. The pikey hits the jackpot!!! Fact.

All sounds like very wishful thinking mate.

We have not seen a prime Tyson Fury so really unfair to comment against a prime Joe Mesi but I am sure Tyson would be very disappointed if he does not surpass the career of Mesi.
