Well Khan always starts quickly. Barrera was covering up well and most of those combos were just rattling off of the gloves. Without the cut I imagine Barrera would have been a little more agressive early on, but I always expected Khan to start faster cut or no cut. What I expected to see was Barrera to gradually open up more and more and to unnerve Khan by still being there and constantly checking his chin. Eventually that pressure would have led to an exciting final few rounds where Barrera would hopefully have come through with his heart.
Getting cut so early and having to fish blood off his face every 30 seconds screwed up a lot of things. And it was caused by a headbut after all.
It's fair to say Barerra's cut hindered his vision and thus his ability to fight Khan to the level he wanted to, but I think it's unfair to give Khan zero credit at all. He did improve and he did appear to have a good gameplan.
It's harsh for Barerra, and really sucks for a ring legend to go out like that I agree. Just think this thread should focus a bit more on Khan's improvements instead of constantly giving him a hard time for something which isn't his fault. I do wish it hadn't stopped on a cut though, worst way in my opinion.
CutMeMickster, there was 20,000 paying punters in that joint not 200... if they stopped it after one or two rounds there would have been a RIOT!!!!![]()
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
Was it as bad and busted up as it sounds? The quintessential crossroads fight. Was the cut the same one intentionally delivered in Barreras last fight by the 1-8 no hoper ??
Whatever the case,Barrera needs to retire. He has zero to prove and his career and status remain intact,to be respected and admired a great Champion. We as fans should be grateful for the many memories he has provided.I am glad that he did not try to politic or massages the rules .......He is a warrior, and I'm betting that he believed deep down he could win,cut or no cut, thus he continued on like a Champ.Have to respect that.Congrats to Khan....sounds like he may have matured and did exactly what he needed to do in executing his game plan.It was his day and merits acknowledgment.
Would have loved to see Enzo getting starched,Ola strikes me as an oddity,Fancy's himself a huge hitter despite the record.
