Boxing Weigh In Photos: Amir Khan - Marco Antonio BarreraBy Jane Warburton March 14th, 2009 All Boxing Articles
© Jane Warburton / Saddo Boxing Yesterday, at the Triangle Shopping Centre in Manchester, England, Frank Warren and Sports Network hosted the official weigh-in ahead of tonight's much anticipated clash between Amir Khan of Bolton, England, and Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico as they fight for the vacant WBO Intercontinental and WBA International lightweight titles. Well-known Promoter Don King, supplied the entertainment as he laughed and waved flags for the duration. 'Donning' a denim jacket embellished with his portrait and his slogan, 'Only In America - The Greatest Nation in the World', the fuzzy haired promoter looked to be enjoying the occasion as he stood on the podium awaiting the boxers and occasionally calling out 'Long Live Mexico'. Looking to be a real 'people-man', King took time to speak to - and take photographs with - many of the general public waiting around the weigh-in area. Amir Khan looked in fantastic shape as he stepped up to the scales - seemingly confident as he came in on the weight at 134.5 pounds. However, his opponent - the hugely respected Barrera - didn't look so at ease, seeming bewildered, and coming in three ounces over the limit, would not have been happy to strip in front of the crowds. Removing his boxer shorts was enough to tip the balance and he raised a hand to signal the successful result at an even 135 pounds. Also weighing in yesterday was popular welshman Enzo Maccarinelli, who tipped the beam at 199.25 pounds. Looking in great physical shape, Maccarinelli of Swansea, Wales, faced a grinning Ola Afolabi of Westhills, California, who also scaled 199.25 pounds ahead of their Interim WBO Cruiserweight title clash. Other boxers weighing in yesterday included Commonwealth Light Middleweight Champion Bradley Pryce of Wales and his challenger Matthew Hall of Manchester as well as WBO Super Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook of Dagenham, Essex and his challenger Roman Martinez of Puerto Rico along with super middleweights Paul 'Smigga' Smith of Liverpool as he faced Rashid Matumla of Tanzania for the vacant WBA International title. 12 Rounds - WBA International & WBO Inter--Continental Lightweight Titles 12 Rounds - Interim WBO Cruiserweight Title 12 Rounds -- WBO Super Featherweight Title Related Boxing Articles...
