I'm not really sure what to think of Alcine, he's obviously solid, but nothing really jumps out at me, haven't really seen him enough to know for sure. I actually picked him to beat Simms in the prediction contest cause I think Simms is one of those guys who's great against pressure fighters like Rivera but not nearly as good when he has to go up against another boxer. I think he just kinda wanted it more than Simms really, horrible fight.

Trying to think of another young guy/fringe contender at 154 that could make an interesting fight with Julio. Maybe Sechew Powell. He's not a great fighter by any means but not a bad boxer. He could try out Verno Phillips but I wouldn't be surprised if Verno still had too much for him although he's getting old. I don't know much about Sergio Gabriel Martinez.
Matrinez is the dark horse of the division and the guy that gets shafted. Margarito beat him but other than that,he has been all around Europe fighting the top 154 pounders and beating them pretty easily. He's southpaw, very slick, good counters and good power. Would prove troublesome for most in the divsion.

I'd like to see Julio jump right into the deepend at 154,but no-one is free so I guess they will just take a tune up. LOL,I see you don't really like Julio at all,I think you predicted everyone would beat him there
I don't know much about Alcine either but he seems to be one of those guys who does not have a particular weapon,he is just sound at everything.Good call,I chose SImms because I had not seen Alcine fight.

As for Santos, you hit the nail on the head! I dislike the guy but I mean he is made out to be a bum by some fans but he certainly isn't. At one point,I think he seemed destined to be a great world champ but he ran someone over and then got KTFO by Jantuah and has not been the same since. I don't mind who wins but I think Santos will prevail.
I think he could beat Sechew. Maybe

As far as Verno, you can never tell how much a guy like him has left but I think he's an underrated fighter and on the other hand think Julio's overrated. Either way he would make Julio earn it, he's a much smarter fighter, and he wouldn't just crumble if Julio landed something hard.

lol, well CC man, always great conversing with you. I can see where you are coming from with Julio but he's still young and can improce. WHo would fancy out of Julio and Berto, both with explosive power but both with defensive liabilities and an aura of predicatability around them. Heck,Cosme Rivera, who Zab blew out, gave them both problems!

CC. I know, Zab can't do it against the elites but he can be a dominant guy against the fringe contender types. But then again he can also lay an egg against guys like Pineda and Omar Weis so I've given up trying to figure him out. He's just such a consistent fighter

I like Berto better although I'm wary about him too. Mainly like him better cause he's quicker and he has better technique, at least offensively. Neither one of them are that good defensively. Although I wonder about Berto's chin to be honest and since he's come forward aggressive guy that could be a huge issue. And he's predictable too, it annoys me with these guys who fall in love with their power and ignore going to the body consistently. That's one of the reasons why Cotto's as good as he is. Think if he was just a headhunter, he might still get a bunch of KO's but he wouldn't just brutally beat people down like he does if it wasn't for the body shots.

I actually think that Berto is only ever so slightly better than Julio at the moment although we shall see how he responds to the Rivera fight and getting dropped. I am impressed by his power but it was the same combinations over and over and over again!! I've also heard unconfirmed rumours from 2 other sites that Berto was known as being a bit chinny in the amateurs and sparring. I'm not sure if they mean he leaves his chin out to dry or even that he gets dropped often. One thing is for sure,I don't buy the flash knockdown excuse,I think Rivera genuinely hurt him.

Great analogy with Cotto,I love the way he systematically breaks the opponent down and heck,no one likes to get hit to the body. A great body puncher can do well against any style.Julio did go to K9's body fairly well in his last fight. Aaaa, what heck,I should stop trying to sell Joel to you,I'm not a fan either!

Do you think it's a good move by Julio, going to 154 or you think he would be better at 147?

Definitely 154 if he's been struggling to make weight. Might actually help his power and if he's really been draining maybe that's why his legs have always kind of looked a bit shaky to me.

That and its obviously an easier division than 154.

I've heard the same reports about Berto's chin as you, and I agree, I think he was hurt. Maybe not totally out of it but definitely stunned.

I just remembered I start back school tomorrow. Must go buy some pens.
