Default Joel Julio has moved to 154

Well, that's what Dan RAfael said in his notes. His first fight there will be on the Vargas-Mayorga undercard. I think it's a good move. He's a big boy, still filling out and 147 is just too packed. At 154,he could be real real dangerous.

The scary thing is he will still beone of the hardest hitters in the division.

I think he could beat Spinks, Karmazin, Dzindurik and most of the other guys at the top.

Expect Vernon Forrest to give him a boxing lesson though.

Baldomir-Julio or Alcine-Julio could go either way.

He will never get to fight De La Hoya

I think Spinks would outbox him but I'd still like to see it. Karmazin is tough too. He would KTFO most of the others imo. I totally disagree with the Baldo fight,Joel would crush him. Younger, faster, more powerful.

No way, it takes a lot to break into that elite group.

Bil,he's fought a few times above 147 but not officially at 154,at least not for a while. Now it is an official move,so we won't see him v guys like Berto etc.

We he made the right decision, he's nowhere near ready for the elite at 147, at 154 he's got a chance at winning a belt.

Suprised it was only made official now though, I thought he had been fighting at 154 since the Kamya fight.

I thought he only moved down for the Quintana fight then went back up again. Never even knew he was a natural welter.

I just honestly can't see him making much of an impact even if 154's easier.

Spinks would school him, Karmazin would knock him out, same for Forrest and Simms. I've only seen Dzindriuk twice but from what I've seen he'd beat Julio.

Obviously I'm not that high on him Nothing against him, he's a reasonably exciting fighter.

NO CHANCE he could beat spinks, spinks would outbox him easily

since he never got KTFO at 147 it may not be a bad idea for him to move up

You may have a point Oumafan, stylistically, alot of those guys could be troublesome for him but if he carries his power with him,he is a dangerman. I also think there is more of a chance for him to flourish at 154 as there are less names there and also the fact that he is still filling out,so making 147 must have become difficult.

I just don't see much there, I've been way off on a lot of guys before so maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see it in Julio. I guess he could be considered a dangerman cause of his power but even there I think his power's a bit overrated. Although it could get better if he was having trouble making 147. I think if he was put in with guys like Karmazin, Forrest or even Simms it would be quickly apparent that he was in over his head and I think he would take a beating.

There's just a lot I don't like about him. I think he's predictable, I don't like his footwork, balance, his only real defense is just keeping his hands up, he's not that fast and I think he relies on his power too much. In all honesty I don't dislike the guy, I just don't think he's got what it takes.

What's happened to Rivera? That would be an entertaining fight while it lasted but I'd assume that Rivera would win.

Jose Antonio Rivera is fighting Daniel Santos on the Vargas-Mayorga undercard if I remember corectly and the winner is in line for a shot at Joachim Alcine. Also,to stay busy,Alcine is fighting Terra Garcia,so it's nice to see some of the 154 pounders stay busy.

As for your julio criticisms,I agree with some of them but I think he has improved since he lost to Quintana. His defence looks slightly better,he uses the jab to set up his power shots more etc but I agree,he is over reliant on his power.

Something about Santos I don't like so hopefully Rivera will win. I know you don't like him and I'm pretty sure I know why

I'm not really sure what to think of Alcine, he's obviously solid, but nothing really jumps out at me, haven't really seen him enough to know for sure. I actually picked him to beat Simms in the prediction contest cause I think Simms is one of those guys who's great against pressure fighters like Rivera but not nearly as good when he has to go up against another boxer. I think he just kinda wanted it more than Simms really, horrible fight.

Trying to think of another young guy/fringe contender at 154 that could make an interesting fight with Julio. Maybe Sechew Powell. He's not a great fighter by any means but not a bad boxer. He could try out Verno Phillips but I wouldn't be surprised if Verno still had too much for him although he's getting old. I don't know much about Sergio Gabriel Martinez.

Matrinez is the dark horse of the division and the guy that gets shafted. Margarito beat him but other than that,he has been all around Europe fighting the top 154 pounders and beating them pretty easily. He's southpaw, very slick, good counters and good power. Would prove troublesome for most in the divsion.

I'd like to see Julio jump right into the deepend at 154,but no-one is free so I guess they will just take a tune up. LOL,I see you don't really like Julio at all,I think you predicted everyone would beat him there
I don't know much about Alcine either but he seems to be one of those guys who does not have a particular weapon,he is just sound at everything.Good call,I chose SImms because I had not seen Alcine fight.

As for Santos, you hit the nail on the head! I dislike the guy but I mean he is made out to be a bum by some fans but he certainly isn't. At one point,I think he seemed destined to be a great world champ but he ran someone over and then got KTFO by Jantuah and has not been the same since. I don't mind who wins but I think Santos will prevail.
