Wait....are you joining Eastslide (??) to fill the 'one' smart guy quota
Well, I am back and I had a great time. Me and the Mrs managed to see York, London and Brighton (and also Manchester, but we only went there 'coz the airport was close). We did a lot of the touristy stuff, but I was able to indulge a fair bit in reading my papers, eating food and drinking beer. The parts of the UK we went to were very nice. It was nice to go and buy some mints and have the shopkeeper make polite small talk. Very nice. I like simple things like that. The older people also have really good manners. The younger people are hit and miss, but on the whole I didn't see too many of those roaming gangs of kids. We only went to nice places though, so I may have sheltered myself somewhat.
I was surprised by the sheer numbers of foreign people on the streets of London. I had never realised that English could be a minority language. Some of those Europeans have very nice figures BTW. That reminded me of Korea a bit except the breasts are a bit more rounded in Europe. The touristy thing doesn't excite me that much but I quite liked seeing some of the buildings. St Pauls is lovely, as is York Minster. I was a bit creeped out climbing to the top of St Pauls though. I thought the Tower of London was a steaming pile of poo. Far too busy and quite dull all in all. Brighton was nice with decent weather and I went on some of the rides on the pier. I also chatted with an old man who was telling me that the fishing in nearby Worthing has been getting progressively worse. I had quite a few casual chats with random people and quite liked it. I even went to see Oliver in London to try and live up to my toff nosed middle class popular image. Some of the dancing was quite spectacular. Not so keen on some of the songs mind.
All in all a great trip and I am well stocked up on CD's and books. The UK ain't so bad.
Wait, you mean as a Englishmen you've never really been sightseeing around London?
Even though you've said you are currently living in East Asia, I've always thought that at least the majority of UK citizens have been to London, considering that the UK is quite small as a country, if i'm not mistaken it's about 2/3 the size of California.
I always remember my trips to Brighton, found a brilliant club, music was banging from the outside. Strolled in, but something was a bit odd, couldn't quite put my finger on, then the penny dropped, where were the women?
Was a gay club!
Repeat that a few times in one night, Brighton is full of gay clubs! Never been so scared in my life while trying to go out clubbing!
Haha, yeah Brighton has loads of gay clubs. Didn't go to any mind. I did go for dinner in Manchesters Canal street though and went for a drink in a nearby pub. I was with the wife so all was above board. I don't mind the whole gay thing just as long as they don't touch me.
Hey Miles, apologies for the personal question but is your wife English? It always intrigues me to know what people from other countries make of our country!![]()
I'm in the 7th day of my 9 day Virginia vacation with my family that I haven't seen in 15 years. Pretty cool I'm having a lot of fun, my cousins are such good people, it sounds corny but it's kind of making me rethink the way I'm living my life and about all this damn pot that I'm smoking. 7 days sober I think I've finally attained that moment of clarity, or maybe I'm just going crazy from withdrawal symptoms. Either way, the vacation was definitely needed and I'm not trying to make it another 15 years. Having fun, hopefully you got what you needed out of your vacation Miless and your descent into full blown insanity is slowed a little bit.
Thanks Amat, I do feel a little less insane. It was probably the hottest day of the year yesterday and it barely bothered me. A spot of time spent in the UK fridge has cooled me enough to see out the rest of this summer. I must admit that on my first day back I had the post holiday blues and was miserable because I hadn't slept in 36 hours, but now I am rested up, I feel quite peachy.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday, time goes too quickly.
