rant,
marquez could fight all the jr. welters or welters he wants to but pacquiao will never fight him again. believe me when i say that maybe pacquiao, himself, isn't ducking marquez but arum sure as hell is. how many times does marquez have to call this clown out? after their super featherweight fight, he wanted an immediate rematch. now you tell me, why wasn't it made? marquez sure as hell wanted it, the boxing world wanted it, hell, even marquez went up to pacquiao's face and said he wanted a rematch in front of pacquiao's countrymen. but no, a humiliated pacquiao uttered unrecognizable words something to the effect of uh, um, aa, i, um hhm, oo,. he didn't know what to say to marquez! but no, what did pacquiao do? he ran up to lightweight and fought a paper ass champ in david diaz! what did marquez do after that? he went up to lightweight to fight duckquiao but duckquiao quickly went up in weight again.
listen, because of marquez' age, he can't be effective at welterweight but i think he would give anybody a hard time at jr. welter. when marquez was the champion at featherweight and super featherweight, he gave pacquiao a chance to win his titles. a real man would return the favor.
let me ask you something, why in the hell did pacquiao fight morales a third fight after ko'ing him in their rematch? why is that? i mean, what's the thrill in fighting someone you already ko'd? marquez wasn't ko'd, and in fact, most real boxing fans will tell you he won that fight.
look, i may not be a pacquiao fan but i sure do not hate him. what i dislike are his contradictions with marquez, mayweather, catchweights, blood tests etc...again, i'll say it again, for pacquiao's next fight why didn't they go for a young, fast fighter? there are at least 10 opponents at jr. welter, welter, or jr. middleweight that can excite the boxing masses. do you think fans are going to get excited with duckquiao fighting an old washed up mosley? come on, get real!!!!!!!!!
Since Diaz at 135, Arum has put him in with DLH, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito... Yep, that is how you protect a fighter...
You are just denying the fact that these guys could beat 99% of their divisions,,, but it's simply easy to label them as "washed up" or "beaten up" or "slow" or "old" or whatever latest word you've got to discredit guys who are only a beating from Pac away from still being at the top of their weight divisions... yes yes you'll list those fighters out now and the reasons they were all tailor made for Pac..... While what you are trying to do is say how BAD they are, all you are really proving is how good Pac is for beating these guys so easily when everyone who's faced them before has struggled.....
You could say Floyd has been protected his whole career because he's never copped a beating.. But more to reality, he's just a step above everyone else...
Maybe you are just ignoring the fact that he faced the perceived most dangerous fighters in their divisions,,,, and whipped their asses..... Just because Manny doesn't get hurt, it doesn't mean he's being protected....
But regardless, on to the point of Marquez next fight.. I think he has to fight someone of good quality at 140... It doesn't have to be anyone at the top, but he's got to prove he can carry the weight upwards...
Most people believe NO ONE deserves a fight with Pac more than Marquez, and the best thing he can do to make that happen is to look good at 140...
The Mayweather fight really told us nothing...

JMM needs to come up to 140, just to get used to the weight class.
1. Khan is a to fast for JMM. That fight might end worse then the Mayweather vs JMM fight. Besides, if Khan win, Roach will go after the winner of Alexander vs Bradley.
2. If Maidana some way pull off the upset, he's perfect for JMM.
3. If Bradley wins, that would be a good fight. But IMO, if Bradley vs Berto at 147 would be a good fight.
4. Not Alexander
5. Not Berto. JMM better not fight Berto!!!
6. Please not Eric Morales. PLEASE!!!
7. My pick Zab Judah!!!
I'd rather JMM not move up at all, but he probably will to try and be the first Mexican fighter. To win world titles in 4 weightclasses, Timothy Bradley vs JMM is a great match up for JMM.
But im still concerned about JMM moving up, because he is 37. And the wars will certainly be catching up with him soon, but i hope he can make history.
Should Juan Manuel fail to land in the Pacquiao sweepstakes there's one match-up he should consider to improve his credentials in the above lightweight categories...
How about Joshua Clottey? Especially if JuanMa knock him out!![]()
Having as an opposition only a small lightweight and a counterpuncher in Juan Manuel Marquez, could very well transform Clottey into an “aggressive” type of a fighter for a change. This plays out, Joshua could prove an easy knockout victim for the very powerful “Dinamita”, the greatest Mexican boxer/counterpuncher of all time (IMO), if just so provided enough opportunities, thus JMM could very well establish his place in the “above lightweight” category.
All the above scenarios clicking into place will allow for Marquez’ a seamless entry into the ranks of the said categories in boxing and the all-important accreditation in the eyes of the Pay-Per-View public. This also should render Manny Pacquiao’s snub, (he reasons that JMM is a promotional hazard with his weak accreditation), invalid.
Only thing though, last time out in the news, I read that Joshua Clottey was contemplating a move into the 154 weight class and since then, I never knew for a fact if he actually did.
Nevertheless if noteworthy indeed, it is nothing that a good promoter cannot get on track... and GBP should venture into this instead of just relying on a "dela hoya" media-bellyaching fiasco to twist Top Rank into partnering for a potential blockbuster.![]()

I didn't really want another pro or anti-Pacquiao thread. We have enough of those threads already. So to Marquez, Marquez is one of the biggest names in boxing. His only losses (other than a fluke) are against other future HOF's in Pacquiao, Chris John, PBF etc. He is nearing the end of his career. I wanted to see how Marquez fans thought he should end it.
As I said earlier, I like the idea of Marquez challenging SSM, Andre Berto or Tim Bradley, much more than seeing him fight Soto or another 135er. It gives him the chance of being the first Mexican fighter to win titles at 4 weight classes and as an added benefit makes his claim for a third fight with Pacquiao more credible.
For the Marquez fans - Who do you think would win between SSM and JMM at 147? Berto and JMM? Bradley and JMM?
Milmas -
It may be the case that Pacquiao would never fight JMM again, but JMM needs to test himself at 140 or 147 to really give his challenge to Pacquiao more credibility, which is where Pacquiao is now fighting. Kastidis was a fight everyone in the boxing world knew Marquez would win. He was a big favorite for a reason in that fight. Same goes for the Juan Diaz fight before it. And the same would go for a Soto fight.
It would lend a lot of legitimacy to what you are saying if Marquez beat a top guy at 140 or 147. I want to see Marquez fight the winner of the Bradley and Alexander fight. I would much prefer to see that than a Soto fight. To me, if Marquez chooses Soto or someone else at 135, basically, he is giving up his chances for a Pacquiao fight in the future.
JMM is the biggest name in boxing outside of Shane Mosley and Sergio Martinez right now. Once Pacquiao beats Shane Mosley, there really won't be anyone else with that level of notoriety for Pacquiao to fight other than Mayweather. Therefore, if Marquez challenged and beat Tim Bradley/Devon Alexander, he would be the most logical fight for Pacquiao.
I like the idea of seeing Marquez fight a different style too. He beats "come forward" fighters.

rant,
to tell you the truth, if indeed pacquiao does go ahead with the mosley fight, i don't want to see marquez/pacquiao anymore! why? marquez is going to be just too damned old. it would have been great to see them fight next but later on in 2011 would be just to much to ask for marquez who by that time would be 38 years old. i believe the boxing world wanted this fight but because of stupid boxing politics, it sadly will probably never happen again.
rant,
i'd like to see him fight soto because, bradley and berto are just too young and fresh. i know berto is way too strong for marquez and bradley is too fast right now.
the reason why i think marquez would give pacquiao a lot of problems again, because he knows him from his two fights already. he knows his weaknesses and strengths and besides, pacquiao's come forward style accommodates marquez' style.
you know, since the marquez/pacquiao I fight, after that first round in which marquez was dropped 3 times, marquez has won the vast majority of the next 23 rounds. that's what i mean that marquez knows pacquiao and after that first round, he made adjustments and outboxed him.
My point still is if Marquez can't win a fight above 135, he won't get another Pacquiao fight.
It also seems like you are holding Pacquiao and Marquez to two different standards. You say Berto and Bradley are too young and fresh for Marquez, but at the same time, not for Pacquiao? Do you consider Pacquiao just better than Marquez at the higher weight because he would handle Berto and Bradley better?

I dont think most Marquez fans want him to fight Pacquiao above leightweight if at all.
Pacquiao is younger than Marquez, so I dont really understand your point about holding them to differing standards.
my point is this, pacquiao is in his absolute prime right now. he can compete more effectively i believe, with fighters like berto and bradley because they are also in their prime. marquez, is too old for berto and mosley. however, as he's already proven, can give pacquiao an interesting fight like his first two. berto and bradley are just too young and in their prime for marquez. whereas pacquiao, while still in his prime, matches up well with marquez because marquez knows how to fight him. he's proven that but instead, pacquiao chooses an old mosley who definitely cannot be competitive anymore at the championship level.
now tell me, explain to me if pacquiao is not cherry picking his opponents, why wasn't berto nor bradley or anybody as fast as pacquiao, chosen as his opponent? and please don't tell me that bullshit that they wouldn't sell enough ppv's! do you actually think the knowledgeable boxing public is going to shell out $54.95 to see a one sided beat down? pacquiao is a multi-millionaire many times over, surely he can go after a top fighter so that he can shut up his most ardent critics.
and another thing, sergio martinez already said he would come down to 154 to challenge pacquiao for his jr. middleweight title but bob arum balked as usual. why? and please don't tell me pacquiao is too small for martinez. pacquiao was willing to beat up a slow, margarito for the jr. middleweight title at a catchweight so why can't he defend it with martinez as his opponent? i'll tell you why, it's because martinez would kill pacquiao and pacman knows it. he only wants fights where he has a big speed advantage. forget about the height and weight, speed kills and if your opponent happens to fight you at a catchweight and he's slow and past his prime, what a better opponent for pacquiao!!!
