    Well, I wanted to conserve energy. I guess the only purpose of the walking is to get closer to him. He wasn't really throwing all that much, and I would have caught the punches in my glove. I'm pretty good about being able to get into stance quickly, as I don't even have to think about it.

    Had I been in better shape, I'd have kept form the whole time and used more lateral movement. But all that doesn't do any good if you don't have the energy to keep fighting afterwards. I was pacing myself, really.

    You should listen to grey and not be so defensive, because he is exactly right. Your center of gravity is abysmal at best when doing this, and if you run into anyone who knows what they are doing you are going to find yourself eating pavement and fast.

    You can move and still maintain a good center of gravity. In fact, it is essential and one of the first things you should learn in regards to stance before even throwing punches.
