Martinez vs Murray - Who won?

Yes it was a home town win, Murray won the fight but it's how it goes, Martinez looked OLD he
was very lucky Murray is not a big puncher.
Good performance by Murray, Martinez is showing his age indeed he is.!

I had Martinez winning. Barely. He banked enough early rounds and took the last 2. Murray inactivity in the early rounds were his downfall. But he does get credit. He did way better than I expected him to. I think he could of pulled it off if he would of let his hands go more.

Martinez is very close to being done. The Chavez fight took a lot out of him. He needs to start looking in calling it quits. Cuz I would not favor him in a Chavez rematch or against Alvarez, Golovkin or Quillin. I think even Murray could take him in a rematch

I thought Murray nicked it. No problem with Sergio getting it though.

Murray is much better than I thought. Always seen him as one-paced/predictable but he clearly can hold his own in world-class. Martinez needs to seriously consider retirement. He's getting hit more and more and is gonna get ironed out if he carrys on.

Agreed man, Chavez Jr body punches took a lot out of Martinez, kinda like his old man vs Taylor and we all know what happened in the rematch.

I put money on Murray winning and said that his pressure would be too much for Martinez but I can't say I was surprised at the decision. Doesn't make it any less of a robbery though. Martinez who I always thought was a good sport seemed to realise that Murray wasn't going to follow the script from pretty early on and whined and whinged about every tiny infraction, real or Imagined. They don't want Murray fighting Chavez and so Martinez is given a freebie.

The Wide Open scoring for Martinez was complete BS and the Idea that Murray should have to Knock a champion out or fight in a particular style in order to win is just as dumb. Yes Sergio as I had said, and many people had remarked, is falling to pieces, but give Murray credit for stepping into the Lions den and not getting carried away, instead following the excellent game plan of his corner ffs.

Football (Soccer) can mess up your knees, Cycling similarly, couple that with broken hands, shoulder surgery and a low hand style that is often rewarded with blows to the face then 37 is old and Sergio's best days are behind him. All those people scoffing at the idea that GG would beat him easily must concede that the idea was not so far fetched now.

He eeked out the decision, but a year ago even he would have dominated Murray as he did Barker and Macklin, who by the way HBO were trying to give those fights to AGAINST Sergio. This was by no means some grand HBO conspiracy of bias for Sergio, they've tried to screw him in the past.

Martinez didn't dominate Barker. He was outboxed and frustrated for most of that fight. You could probably argue that he was behind at the time of the stoppage.

Didn't Barker also break Martinez's nose aswell ? you could also argue Barker easily won 4 rounds in the fight aswell.

As for the thread Murray won and comfortably aswell, and if the 2nd knockdown had been scored there wouldn't be any doubt.

Murray landed the better quality shots, hurt Martinez and dropped him twice. And also had the much better defense, i don't really see how anyone can see Martinez winning, for most of the fight he was clowning and getting outboxed.

Sergio won by 1 or 2 points!!! They both sucked, no one put their ballz down to take over the fight! Murray wouldn't punch "with him" and if he did Sergio would have been stopped! Sergio was flat and looked like he didn't spar a round! As I've said for sometime now Sergio knows how to box and outscore an opponent but he is NOT a great fighter and he can be beaten by someone who's willing to punch with him. Murray would step in and throw 1 or 2 punches then bounce out!!!....WHY?
He didn't get countered Sergio didn't do crap except move away Murray should have STAYED on him, he didn't! Crappy fight, boring action, low skill levels especially for a Middleweight Title Fight!

Theres a reason why Boxing isn't at the hights anymore! There are no fighters who come to lay it on the line!! Either the guy is a runner or the pressure guy simply doesn't throw enough punches. Which is what last night bout was all about!!! Boring!! Ray.

I had the fight a draw. Could have gone either way. I think a rematch is in order.

Nah, I'd rather watch paint dry then to sit through that crap! It'll be the same fight playing out the same way, theres to much rematches these days just move on and accept that styles make matches good or bad so when one is boring just move on to another!
Sergio won so get him in there with GGG and have Murray in there with a top 6 guy and the winner fights for the title off the GG vs Sergio match up!! Get things moving forward not going backwards!

I had Martinez eeking out a decision. It was close.

It was his first fight following surgery. The problem is that he broke his left hand and allegedly had problems with his knee again, indicating to me that either the surgery wasn't successful, or that his older body didn't respond as well to the stress of boxing match, as it has in the past.

If Sergio is out for the remainder of the year, how about Murray versus Junior or Quillin?
