I think I have arthritis in both of them. The right knee has had an ACL operation 2006 and is generally fine, the left knee has no ligament and is weaker which is why I think the bone rubs on the bone and I get the severe pain.

I have a doctors appointment Monday and have to lie to him that the problem was caused by running as they have advised me not to play football.

I do not want to get to a stage where I have to stop the basics such as cycling and cross trainer because of the knee because I would definitely end up obese and die of heart disease.

I really want to play football again and have a laugh with my mates. I do not regret the football I have played loved every second of it.
Rowing is a great exercise and less stressful on the knees.

Take a rest and dont put anymore stress on your kness until a proper diagnosis is carried out.

Does your current job affect your knee?

No just an office job, did some cycling exercise today but only 20 minutes. It did not hurt that much but not motivated to do more.

Any steps leading up to where you work? I bet it hurts the worse of all going up and down them.

Inclined slopes are hell on mine, specially going downhill.

After the mild exercise the knee got worse. I really feel like an invalid and thoroughly pissed off with the knee. People have been saying I have been limping and I have ignored them and this explains by bad back.

Doctor referred me to consultant for appointment 25th February.

Still cannot walk properly and have not trained since which makes me feel lazy and fat.

Try laying down on your back and peddling your legs from the hips reduces the knee impact and the bend of the knee joint, you may just reset your back into place too, plus its better cardio exercise than when you stand even move your arms as well.
Could do some leg raises while you watch tv ,or lift whole body up and down on your ankles while standing etc. You can support your knee on an exercise ball and do all sorts of reverse pulling and light pressure holds etc to keep the strength up without doing more damage.

Can you ride your bike ok? My mate has healed his split cartilage by increasing his bike riding to comp level, they wanted to do the arthroscope thing with his but he is all better now after a couple of years of self management. He hasnt gone back to soccer though. But looking at him i bet he could if he didnt have these other interests. He was the same as me if he caught the inside of his foot on anything like a chair leg etc, the knee would be like a knife going through it,other stuff less so.

fish oil tabs (cheap brand in large volume helps too)from others and my own experience it isnt the quality its the volume.some take up to 12 a day. That certainly stops you waking up in pain.

Great advice Andre, never thought about exercising now but could do some stretching and mild exercise as you suggest with no impact.

I never like taking tablets even aspirins, but will consider the fish oils.

I can ride the bike and I use to ride for miles on Sunday but found it boring and dangerous.

Ask Scrap about excersizing on your back. You heal twice as fast as your nervous system is relaxed and yet your cardio is more intense so more blood flows to your worn areas.

Support the knee with a ball or something, squeeze the ball backwards onto your calf etc.

Watch tv with bal under your knee squeeze it roll your knee over on side and squeeze all that sort of thing, trial and errror Just dont repeat anything that hurts.

Had my appointment and the consultant believes I need a knee replacement which at my age is very young. My knee must be really be in a bad way if he is considering that.

Reading up on it at the moment and looks like I will never be able to play sports again.

I used to get terrible shin splints and then my older brothers buddy from Hong Kong told me about this ancient rubbing compound used for centuries. He got me some and it was as thin as water. He told me rub it on but only one way downward towards the foot. It cured my shin splints. I think rats as crazy as it sounds might be part of its makeup. If you have a China town near by it might be worth looking into. It may at least provide some relief.

Btw I remember the smell was rank. Almost eye watering.
