if your 18 or over, Lift weights for low reps (~8 reps ) 2x a week or more and eat loads of protein, thats my 2 cents.

under 18 dont lift weights as you may stunt your height growth.
    Thats cricket

Kev, tyson lost to douglas cause he pretty much stoped training period. He had no real trainers for that fight. He tried to trian himself. JAY bright? lol laughable. Cus or rooney or atlas would not allow tyson to lift weight.

Most fighters don't especially those trained by old school coaches. it makes you stiff and slow (at least slower than you would be had you not lifted) Some body parts are ok for lifting like the forearms but thats about it.

it is common knowledge that once tyson changed his routine it was down hill. Exit Rooney and the D'amto style and enter the downfall.

Watch tysons early fights, he was trim, fast, flexable and has lean strong muscle. He didnt look like a bodybuilder like he does now.

poom is correct though..if you want to lift very little weights with lots of reps just to get a burn and gain endurance in your muscles that is perfectly fine...I am refering to heavy weight low reps that build bulk. I should have made that clear.

you dont even know if this guy eats right. and you cant really know if its his natural weight if he isent eating enough thats why i told him to get a good diet . when i was younger i barly ate maybe once a day and it made me sick and skinny all i am trying to do is prevent this guy from doing that. 130 lbs is very low weight by the way how old are you?

Why do you think i said ASSUMING you have not lost weight due to being sick or have gained weight from poor eating habits? I am 31. I started boxing at 14.

Very low for who? Know one knows if he dosn't eat properly... though if he's trying to gain weight I doubt he is eating once a day and wondering why he isn't built like a brick shit house...

It depends what he wants to do, if he wants to gain weight due to personal reasons he should take the bodybuilding route and lift heavy weights and eat 6 big meals a day.
But if he's an amateur boxer, i dont see why he would want to gain weight....Strenght would be the more beneficial way.

Latverian, im not sure about weightlifting being a non benefit to boxing.
Ricky Hatton lifts weights, and he's very explosive in the ring so i dont think the weights affected his speed......Ive heard mixed opinions, but i would rather have a ripped defined physique due to training than a soft looking physique.

That's cool The_one. it is really a matter of opinon. You can have a chisled hard looking physique without lifting. Tyson was not permitted to life with d'amato and rooney check out his shape in the mid 80's ..simply awesome. push ups, ab work, bag training....gets yah lean and hard
