You don't want to gain weight.

What your plan should be is to gain strength not weight.

You are naturally that weight unless of course you have been sick and lost weight in the past and just have yet to gain it back.

Assuming that is your natural weight. Strengthen your body and gain speed. Stay away from heavy weight lifting.

I agree that you want to gain strength. When I was 22 I started boxing and at the same time tried desperately to gain weight as I was 5'8" and 130 lbs. I boxed at 132lbs and made it to #1 in my province, continuing to box for about 6 years as an amateur. Later on it became more difficult to keep the weight down so just focus on that strength and the weight will slowly build.

Best of luck to you in your quest but don't worry too much about the 150 lbs and enjoy the lower weight because trust me it won't last!!!

    cheers, fraser

ROFL "YOUR NATURALLY THAT WEIGHT" funnyest thing ever . If you want to gain weight you have to eat more calories than u consume simple as that. You prolly have a high metabolism . anwyas eat alot of proteins and cut out the junk food and you will add weight and muscle your prolly not add mutch fat incase you do you can start eating less calories but YOU still have to eat alot of proteins /vitamins .

no It has to do with the nutrition , You think mike tyson would be as big as he is if he ate one a carrot /day

lol mike tyson is as big as he is cause he ate and lifted weights ..which was one of the mistakes that led to his downfall. The lifting weights part anyways.

The point we are making danne is that right now what he ways is his natural body weight ..AGAIN assuming he has not lost weight due to being sick and has gained weight due to bad eating habits.

If he is slim and weighs what he does then it is his natiral weight. He does not and should not add weight only strength. Some advice for you is to listen to learn by those who have been down the road you are traveling.

Some people are naturally like that...they have to literally eat so much food and lift heavy just to put abit of weight on...they have a fast metabolism.
    They are called Ectomorph's.

i know what a ectomorph is but your talking about a kid here . Most ppl do the mistake of workoing out without having a proper diet. The diet is the key to succes. And Mike tyson started lifting when he was in prision but that dosent mean it contributed to him boxing worse when he came out he maybe just lost the hang of it cause he dident spare or do enough cardio vasculare exercises his condition wasent the best.(and Im not sure but i think he did lift in his prime) Anyways if you want to listen to the vets do it but if you want to add strenght and weight not in fat but in muscels Than do what i told you GET A PROPER DIEt. Some boxers eat anything and thats why they carry around uneeded weight of fat.

Danne... I don't know how many Amatuer bouts you have had... How much regular real sparring you do or if your training Knowlodge comes from more than just reading threads on bodybuilding.com but most Amatuers fight best at their *shock* natural weight... because they are young and their bodies are unable to metabolise Nutrition and build muscle effeciently.

Tyson was always Naturally big, He got Muscular and conditioned from training... but his frame was always going to be about that size, he just had an edge put on it. Why do you think Boxers like Carlos Maussa (who is taller than Mike Tyson) fight at weights such as Welter weight?

Its because naturaly some people are naturally Slender, so usually uneeded bulk makes them perform baddly by putting to much strain on the Cardiovascular system and eating up Oxygen in amounts that their bodies where never ment to be able to supply if they want to be able to efficiently box...

You can only function within the limits that your energy systems and frame can be pushed to.

You can't tell me that every 6 foot guy who eats a good diet can put on large amount of weight and be as efficient in a ring than had they been lighter... its not that simple... every one is different...

Assuming Tyson had eaten an average Diet and done an Average amount of of exercise he would have still been a fucking giant, maybe not as strong and conditioned, but he would still be huge. if he hadn't trained he was never going to be a 6 foot tall skinny 11 foot man...

You have said that to gain weight you need to consume more calories than you use, this is true... but what do you mean by 'you won't add much fat' and 'if you do stop'? if he wants to gain weight he will have to gain some fat and then once he is over his target weight burn that off, you can't gain a lot of muscle with out carrying some extra fat whilst you do it... an increase in fat is not a definite sign to stop.

There has been some good advice here, a young amatuer boxing should fight in what ever weight division he fit into unless he is overweight, in which case he should burn it off and then worry about competing, I don't know what you think you know about boxing but why would being 15 pounds heavier than his natural weight (thats the weight he is at with out being on any high calorie/protien diets or taking any shitty suppliments) make him a better fighter? will he hit softer than people in his weight division? Will he have more energy and stamina? explain your answers? What do you know about boxing or lecturing people about 'real diets' before you went to bodybuilding.com all you did was ask about suppliments and fat burning tablets... tablets and suppliments ffs... not diet

The kid needs to eat right, get in proper shape, and let the weight fall where is falls. Luckily for him, there are plenty of lower weight classes. As he grows, he'll add weight if his frame is meant to hold more weight. It's pretty simple really.

Why did you edit your post Danne?... You can't increase your body fat whilst lowering the percentage of fat on your body... To gain weight you've got to eat and train alot and have a high intake of carbs and protien for muscle building, your body fat will go up but once get the the desired strength increases (because thats the important thing here... not what scales say) then you train to burn the excess fat off, you can't do it all in one period of fat burning and muscle building. So you cannot carry the fat and reduce your body fat at teh same time.

In response to what you originally put before you deleted it:

Your natural weight is not caused by abnormal diets... you'll reach it when you physically mature Naturally throw Growth Spurts and and filling out once you stop growing up, you don't need Special diets or suppliments to reach your Natural weight... thats why its a natural weight... Your head means nothing so it dosn't really matter if you feel better but hit softer and slower does it? I'd rather underestimate my ability at my natural weight than assume because I am heavier I 'feel good about my boxing' but inactual fact be too bulky to move well, hit hard and keep working...

Why should he try to gain a large amount of Muscle mass if he is not Physically mature, a young amatuer boxer? Whats he going to gain from it, he will be in a weight division with people who's frames and energy systems are naturualy that heavy. "When a person hits his genetical potential thats when he has his natural weight " is just something you read posted by some one one bodybuilding.com or some where who probably had so many suppliments in his sytem they'd taken up all the space for brains... Your Natural Body weight occurs at any age in your Physical development and is simply your body weight when it hasn't been increased by abnormal eating habits like a High calorie diet of a low calorie lifestyle or decreased by a low calorie diet, illness or high calorie lifestyle.

its not taken personal, I just make sure I correct Missinformation on these forums...
