Default WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?

Ok enough with the fukking excuses already. Benavidez is the elephant in the room... and no one seems to give a damn. Last I heard Benavidez is offering $50M to Ginger. What's the holdup?

But no... we're focused on Benavidez fighting David Morrell... while Canelo gets just a tad older and seeks some "gimmes" to round out his Hollywood resume.

Here are the different scenarios for Canelo:

    1. Fighting Benavidez

Canelo knows he'll get his ass kicked... and he already had enough of that with Bivol. Any more of that... and it may mess with his movie deals down the line. So no... Canelo will continue ignoring the elephant in the room.

    2. Fighting Bivol

Canelo insists on the rematch at 175. Bivol had said he wanted it at 168... but appears to have lost interest. WTF... he was the one who kicked Canelo's ass. Why should Canelo call the shots? Personally... I'd love for Bivol to KTFO Canelo in either weight. But all indications are it ain't gonna happen.

    3. Fighting Berlanga

AHH... this is clearly the one that's gonna happen. Why they haven't announced this already is beyond me.
    Look at all the upsides:

    • Berlanga is overly hyped and INEXPLICABLY ranked in the top 10 by two of the boxing orgs.
    • Berlanga is Puerto Rican, thus providing the perfect opponent for the famed "PR-Mexico" rivalry. Unfortunately... Berlanga is a hype job who will soon enough come crashing down.
    • Perfect win for Ginger to go riding off into the sunset without having faced a real danger at 168 pounds.

You heard it here first. Canelo will face Berlanga as his next opponent. That will bring him to 60 wins. A good round number for his groupies to faint over. Then he'll ride off into the sunset... and his fanboys will not hold it against him that he never faced Benavidez, and had no excuse for doing so.

Yes, and if Canelo agreed they would pay Morrell to step aside. Standard stuff if the big name wants a fight.

if you've already signed to fight someone why are you sending an offer to someone else? i call that clout chasing

It’s only clout chasing if you don’t actually want the fight. Do you have any evidence David doesn’t want the fight? Anything that would suggest it at all? Anything in David’s history to select he picks and chooses, anything?

Not being argumentative, just genuinely have never heard anything to suggest anything other than he has wanted a Canelo fight for a long time. I’m willing to listen if there’s something I’m not considering

Negotiations in boxing can be a complicated dance, and sometimes fighters have different priorities or strategic plans. While Benavidez is offering big money, there could be other factors at play behind the scenes. Canelo's team might have their reasons for pursuing different opponents like Berlanga or focusing on specific weight classes.

You're a new member, so first... welcome to the forum.

Yes... "Canelo's team might have their reasons..." Absolutely.

While we can only speculate, those of us who have followed Canelo's career from the beginning have a pretty good idea what those reasons are.
