So who is Jones gonna step it up against to sway the opinion? I like him, but he's lost three straight matches to boxers with lesser ability than him. Did he lose his tactical ability?Originally Posted by JonesJrMayweather
They were pro but hopkins didnt become as good as he could be until into his 30's....the Hopkins of the early part of this decade would have given Jones problems....Originally Posted by JonesJrMayweather

his greatness relied on reflexes and agility...he's old and the legs and reflexes are the first thing to go...and that's whats wrong with roy now...he never had proper boxing technique and now he's suffering because he can't stand and trade without his legs and reflexes.....bernard had a style that was better equipped for the long run...Originally Posted by tuckwopat
prime roy jones at 100% beats bernard by UD everytime...even bernard said he knew he lost to roy...that's usually a very convincing victory when the other fighter admits it....Originally Posted by miles

I concede that Hopkins lost their fight, but it wasnt as one sided as some have made out...
I maintain that the Hopkins that matured into this century could beat prime Jones Jr...
As you've heard this 10 million times now, just because Roy won the match back in '93 doesn't make that outcome the overall view of the way things go in their prime, or how they'll be viewed 20 years from now.Originally Posted by JonesJrMayweather
Roy is or was great. I just hope his legacy doesn't become like Holyfields. Fighting so far past his prime that his tactical ability has become nil.
What does calzaghe have to do with the argument.Originally Posted by Starr

Exactly. I raised that argument too.Originally Posted by chamiley

I'm saying that Roy has gone into fights with a broken hadn or a fractured wrist..which are the kinds of things Calzaghe pulls out of fights forOriginally Posted by miles
It's a testament to questioning Jones' heart

Even so, it took A LOT of heart for him to dig deep to beat Tarver the first time considering what he was up against.
I dont think going into a fight with a fractured wrist shows heart. I think it just reeks of poor decision making. That Jones was able to pull off the results is admirable though.Originally Posted by Starr
To get an injury in a fight and then still pull of the result, thats more about heart to me....it is then fight time and you have to grin and bear it and get the job done...
It is just a case of how you perceive the sport. We see it as warriors fighting in battlefield so to pull out of a fight is seen as an act of cowardice. The Europeans see boxing for what it is, a sport. If you are not 100% going into a match then it is considered a dumb move risking your health. Peer Pressure is a bitch I believe Jones was pressured into taking the third fight with Tarver, clearly he wasn't in it to win the fight.Originally Posted by Starr
