Does this look like a bad thing? It doesn't hurt or anything, but I just wanted to make sure.

Just dont beat them so much that you get arthritis later in life.
Best to start off with sand and get courser and courser stuff till your into small gravel to toughen the skin up like leather first. Then go onto lead pellet filled sacks for tempering knuckles for punching.
There are herbs you can buy through the chinese that stop any bone damage but your skin goes like iron when tensed up.
You have to heat it up like a tea and soak in it for 20 miniutes after training on the hard bags.

Whats going on you going to fight Kimo slice ?

Hmmmm, somewhat. They say girls won't like it, but they never did like me when I had softy hands, so it won't matter now will it? Fuck em' (or DON'T, for that matter...)

Nah, I just want to be able to punch someone without hurting myself. Although I'll bet Kimbo's knuckles are hard like that too (as I've seen him training on the heavybag with bare hands).

I just did like Quingfu Pan did, ever-so-lightly punch on something a few hundred times a day, and the next day do it gradually harder and harder. BY NO MEANS can I beat on something hard like metal with all of my might like he can. However, I'm able to put a little more force when "punching" [I'm not able to do it hard enough to actually punch).

This is what a fist of a semi-retired karateman looks like, guess who?

    pacfanfist.jpg

It still retain about half of the old form though I haven't banged it in years. So let this be a warning: this thing can be permanent. It used to be much more uglier like two marbles jutting out from the fist. They still teach karate in the old, tough way there in Okinawa so we were subjected to all kinds of physical 'abuse' there and pounding our fists on hards stuffs to make them iron hard was one of them. But I've decided to shift to the so-called 'soft' or the spiritual aspect of karate, so I don't torture myself anymore.

    Just passing by. Adios.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.

that's one ugly hand. lol sorry. but it is.

i honestly don't think there is any benefit to roughening up hands like that for boxing, and admit i don't know enuff about martial arts to really judge.

i can understand doing it for martial arts or if you are training for bare nuckle type fighting, but to me if you are boxing and properly you don't need to worry much about hurting your hands if you are throwing properly and well-equipped.

i do use hand grips to strengthen my wrists and hands, but that looks a bit overboard for boxing IMO.

No disrespect mate but Unless you are going to participate in some sort of contest that requires you to have bare skin that you will be getting a cheese grater rubbed over them there is no legit reason to do such a thing to yourself.....the whole hardening of the knuckles thing is more or less a myth....

1- From what I can see you are only giving yourself callouses on the top of your hand..GREAT!!!...If you are some sort of construction worker that uses hand tools on a regular basis...Not too mention it only hardens the outside....Also very unappealing to the ladies

2- The whole hardening the knuckle bones themselves is also foolish..Even when done properly...This so called beneficial process (when done correctly) basically is just tiny little bone fragments chipping off and filling in with calcium eventually dulling the senses....The dulling of the senses often makes minor injuries not be felt as much and in many cases you do not feel an injury that should be tended to...

3- Eventually it leads to arthritis or a club hand especially since the calcium prefers to attach to each other in rapid fashion..

I don't know if someone or you yourself just decided this is something beneficial to being a boxer but in all my years around the sport and the some 100+ world champions current, past present or top caliber contenders current past or present...I can't really name any who did not have soft hands...Tyson had baby soft hands

do yourself a favor give this silly thing up for your own good in the long run...

Don't take my word on it do some real research

See mate; no point, other than to give yourself arthritus or to break things that dont hit back which is also a bit pointless other than 4 comp reasons.
The skin toughening thing is the peliminary to further iron palm training and may help to protect you from future damage ,but yeah I have to agree ,why ?
