Nigel Benn slurs alot now...but my god watching PLAYER on Sky you can understand why, all his fights were wars...
Funny story ....one time i got a cuncussion fighting at super heavy and for like a week id stutter sometimes and like food fell out of my mouth while i was chewing (it may have all been in my head) ...but when u get hit w/ a glove it reverberates all the shock to your brain ,where as a bare knuckle punch does most of the damage to the outer part of the skull
i dont have any perminent damage buit even w/ almost 30 amatur fights i get paranoid everytie i stutter or mis prounounce or forget stuff ...(when i was a teenager i found out it was just the weed smoking lol (i'm much more disciplined than in highschool ..i used to eat snacks and school lunches and do soft drugs but at 21 i'm more mature and understanding of the sport ...but yes in a sense ...in a sense brain damage is inevitable in boxing if u make a career out of it...boxers used to have a reputation for being stupid ...and when your get minor cuncussions many ties it does make reasoning & problem solving more difficult (i' not to that point) but if it can happen when u whack your noggin in an accident it sure as hell can happend when u get hit by another an 1000's of times in your life

Scott Pemberton come to mind ! he really had a hard time getting the words of the tongue on that interview in his last fight
we went out to a fight card night in E. LA and ran into Bobby Chacon. Those wars in the ring do take a toll on the brain.

As a kid growing up in brooklyn there was this former boxer that would start throwing punches whenever the church bells rang...as kids we thought it was the funniest thing until he hit some old lady and got dragged away sobbing by the cops...I never got his name, I understand he died in the hospital about 6 mos after the incident...
Ive been told ive got it pretty bad

Agreed. On the other hand we could just talk brain damage. You are spot on though. Frazier seems perfectly lucid, but thick with the tongue. I'm not sure about Holyfield. I agree with your analysis up to now, but Frazier's battering ended years ago. Holyfield could be in for a world of brain damage given how slowly dementia shows its self. I don't think Holyfield shows full-blown dementia, but I think he is starting to sound a little dumber than before....
That's just my take though and I freely admit that it is a marginal difference at most.
I don't know the answer to that, but there is a lot of depression among well-known boxers. On the other hand these guys are often facing other problems and the rate of depression in the public generally is higher than is normally perceived.
I haven't over the decades seen a correlation between boxing and bipolar / manic and I tend to doubt there is one.
I have seen many cases of boxers with depression, but, as I'm sure you know, that is very different from bipolar.
A lot of the boxers with depression later expressed a need to stay away from recreational drugs. Bipolar on the other hand is not, to my knowledge directly connected to drugs, exercise or even head trauma.
Terry Norris has signs of it.
But I think the worst I've seen is Bobby Chacon.
