Undoubtedly Boxing as a whole is in dire need of reform.Seems like this bill has been in the pipeline for many years now.I dont specifically see eye to eye with McCain politically but he is a big boxing fan.I believe he had bi-partisan support and some big co sponsors for this, can not recall the Representatives.

A unified Commission...absolutley danm straight.I am rarely if ever enthused when the Federal Government wants to insert itself and micro manage everyday Americans. The less is best I believe BUT its undeniable that this sport can not regulate and clean up its own house. The ones constantly on the short end are the fighters that risk their lives every time that bells rings.Who is it that stands for the fighter in the end??His trainer? The State Commissions ?(Haa),the promoters looking to fill seats and...well promote a show? The fans?Try as we might,we can not feed the family or insure a fair shake for them.

I'm not clear on the details of this one,ALOT has to be hashed out and read over.I believe through much haggling and admendment...compromise...it could be a step in the right direction. With a very watchful eye mind you.In all honestly though, with the current state of affairs nationally and worldwide...Its at the very bottom on the list of priority's I believe.

McCain is targeting reservations because of the shady dealings going on in the casinos on those reservation lands. The Campbell/Casa fight of 2003 at Pechanga Resort & Casino is a prime example of this corruption and one that McCain got personally involved in. The whole "soveriegn nation' shit is exactly what they are hiding behind - all McCain wants is some accountability for what goes on on these reservations because the current commissions aren't doing shit or are themselves involved in these dealings. Just like they have to get a federal license to run a casino, they'll have to establish a commission and agree to abide by the law if they want hold championship boxing within those casinos. I don't see a damn thing wrong with this - this environment surrounding this sport needs some accountability, and the current sanctioning bodies have failed miserably in that sense. Hell, if it had been solely up to the current commission, Shane Mosley would have been pummeled with plaster-capped fists rather than beating down Margarito for the title a few weeks ago.

If McCain can get rid of the dumb-ass open-scoring (I know that's not in there, but I know he doesn't like it himself so maybe he'll slip an 'earmark' in ), make professional boxing licenses bondable across all 50 states (so if you're banned in NY you can't skip over to Vegas to fight), and have a body outside the sport itself monitoring the promotors/casino owners/commissioners and the legal contracts they make with one another, how could that be bad for the sport?

-- And he needs to add a bit in there about the qualifications of judges. Ah - and Kellerman. Damn, I think I actually have a list around here somewhere....

What do you mean "sovereign nation shit"? They are a sovereign nation, why does McCain have any say governing foreign nations?
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
