You people act like they don't already do drug testing....they do always AND Wladimir has never tested positive.

Povetkin (the challenger) whom has kept stalling at fighting Wlad is now trying to dictate the terms of the fight.

After seeing Povetkin fight Chambers I know and am 100% certain that Povetkin has nothing for Wladimir, he doesn't punch terribly hard, his chin doesn't seem all that sturdy, and he's not big either.

Cool Lyle. Sure, it is possible that Povetkin is stalling, but there is no reason in the world THIS tactic of asking for drug testing should be effective. Too easy to get around. Just say "sure, lets do it" and it's a done deal.

Funny Lyle but I can't remember ever seeing you defend Pacquio over the same thing...

all this testing request cr@p is for the birds. until the time ALL sanctioning bodies demand some sort of universal approach to testing, it will only serve to inevitably delay or kill potential fights that should happen.

So you rather have great matches with the risk of one of them or both cheating?

You rather have the line at the airport move faster with less strict checks with the risk of having someone smuggle drugs, a bomb, etc.?

Because there are so many similarities between athletes potentially using drugs and airport security measures, right?

Nope, but because lowering security standards raises the possibility of crime. Lower the standards of drug testings and same thing happens. You'll have bunch of boxers out there cheating as long as their opponents are paid a fat check for agreeing not to get tested.

Simple math. Make laws more strict in the airport and it will deter someone to commit a crime, therefore, lowering the possibility of a crime. Make drug tests in boxing more strict, same thing.

It would be an excuse to duck if it prevents the fight from happening cause you don't want to be drug tested. He can't 'duck' the fight if you just say yes to it cause you aren't using.

So if he doesn't accept it he is just as guilty. Wonder how long this "he only wants me to drug test so he can duck me" as an excuse for not doing it.
I totally agree, but in this specific scenario Povetkin has been putting off challenging the Klitschko's for a while. He's been the mandatory for a long time and continues to fight "warm-ups."

Right and one more thing: did Povetkin ask his other recent opponents to submit to drug testing?

yeah but of all the ways to duck out of a fight wouldn't this be the easiest one to get around by saying "yes, sure drug test me" then the fight happens doesn't it?

I think it is time to make olympic style drug testing mandatory in the pro ranks. I'm not accusing anyone of anything but if it was in place that every fighter had to take the random testing then we could be confident that the fighters are clean.

This is highly suspect. Surely the easy play is to accept the tests and put it back to Povetkin to back out again. This gives him a clear slate from any misinterpretations the public may have.

I've said it before no professional athlete should ever turn down a drug test especially if their opponent is subject to the same testing.

I'm all in favour for letting all athletes take PEDs. There will be no suspiscion over who is doing them - as every will be - and some of the achievements we would see would be incredible. Imagine Usain Bolt on PEDs? He'd run the 100m faster than it would take me to blow my nose.

There is simply no excuse to refuse a random drugs test as a pro athlete. It would be like me refusing to allow a school any verification of my teaching qualifications. Why would I ever do that? If I know that I am qualified surely I would just go along with the request? After all, I'm sure I can get the job done and getting the job does mean a decent payday. It's silly to refuse that. Unless.... Povetkin is morally right to make the request, but Klit does also have the room to refuse. Boxing is a sport with too few scruples and not enough athletes willing to stand up and make point of things. He will probably never have to give blood in boxing...but he should.

I think the problem is that there is no uniform system of teaching. If the teachers at your school were subject to more rigorous standards than teachers at a school a block away, I could understand being upset about it. I'm sure 90% of boxers, just like 90% of all athletes, are using something and I think that they feel uneven testing would put them at a disadvantage.

It only sounds uneven to me if one goes through those tests while the other doesn't.
