If true i'm very suprised. I know it was a possible fight after the Wolak fight, i thought he would like to get another fight with Roach before meeting Cotto. Maybe he's finally starting to step up his level of competition.
Good fight and I know that a lot of people aren't that excited over Jr. but I think he can take it to Cotto. Yes Cotto is the better fighter overall, but he's a small 154 pound fighter that may be on the downside of his career with all the wars. When Roach sees a weakness in a fighter or that he's on the downside, he knows when it is the right time to take them, see Khan-Barrera, DLH-Pacquiao as prime examples.
Chavez jr is gonna get the shit kicked out of him. I'm not even all that convinced he would beat wolak. I hope this guy doesn't think beating duddy (who couldn't dodge a punch from a snail) somehow qualified him to take on someone like cotto. I dunno, i wish him luck. Cotto has lost a bit but christ he's still cotto.........the same guy just 10 minutes ago everyone thought could beat floyd. Or are they not talking about miguel and jr is fighting jose that brother instead. Someone should check up on roach......dude was trying to convince us his other fighter lateef who fought on showtime last week was ready for a title shot at the end of the year too.

sure, on paper this fight looks like a mismatch until you closely dissect both these fighters. i believe cotto has seen his better days. not saying he still isn't a current top 15-20 p4p fighter but again, his punch resistance is not like it was pre-margarito.
chavez jr. on the other hand, is young, big, strong and learning. i know he will be in the best shape of his life for this fight and will have a great strategy courtesy of freddie roach. that said, the kid's got a chance. he might get outboxed for a couple of rounds because like his daddy, he is a somewhat slow starter. and what if cotto can't hurt him? is cotto going to have deju (margarito fight) all over again?
yes, cotto WAS a great fighter but at jr. middleweight, he's kind of small. another thing, chavez jr. is coming down from middleweight. if, if he makes weight with no problems, he's going to be much bigger than cotto come fight night.
great fight and i wouldn't be upset if cotto won because like i said before, i am a big fan of his. i just want chavez jr. to prove his detractors wrong by pulling off the upset!
It is strange considering Roach said, after the Duddy fight, that he isn't ready for a fighter like Cotto and there was aspects of his style he still needs to work out. Still, money talks.
So Junior is finally growing a pair, eh? Well, well...
Here's hoping for a slow, gradual lesson in P-A-I-N for the "Coddled One".
I hope this fight happens
Sounds like it's definatley on then.
Does this also mean Khan has been cast aside as main sparring partner?
Chavez Jr gets destroyed in about 8 rounds
Sky better broadcast this fight. No doubt they won't though.![]()
This fight is a lot like Foreman fight IMO, it all depends on how much Cotto has left. I think Cotto will be able to handle Jr., but, from what little I have seen, Chavez is massively underrated because of who his father was. His problem is, like always, going to be his defense and he needs to be wary of Cotto's power.
I guarantee that the winner of this faces the loser of Pac - Margarito (Margarito) if the PBF fight can be made and quite possibly the winner if it cannot.
