We need to keep perspective on taking a Ortiz, who was giving little chance to get by Berto and kinda dismissed in career. He won that fight on resurgent grit, straight shots and heart along with Berto choking and there to have glaring flaws exposed all along. Great win and deserves mega payday but this is again Floyd riding Mannys media coat tails and Floyd picking through the pieces to keep his name in the now. Ortiz is still Ortiz in style and flaws himself. I think Floyd plays with him and then thumps his own chest the loudest, again.
Say what you want about this, but it's a hell of a lot more legit than Pac/Mosley. Ortiz is a good young fighter, arguably in his prime and riding a huge win. Mosley was outclassed by Mayweather and put up such a horrible performance against Mora that even the biggest Mosley fans believe he's washed up.
Isn't it?
Nible-nible, bite. Nible-nible, bite, bite. Nible-nible, bite, bite, BITE!
Instant Mega fight!!! ladies and gentlemen...
"The Alternative", live at pay per view, the much awaited fight between Victor Ortiz versus Floyd "the joy" Mayweather Jr.! Avoid a "Floyd deprivation", for details, call your service provider now!
i am a HUUUGGEEEEE mayweather fan.....but i take a big ass shit on this fight, ortiz is good, but he is not ripe yet, maybe it will do something for floods legacy once both of their careers are all wrapped up, but it does nothing for him now as ortiz is not exactly accomplished, i really wanna see manny vs floyd, i feel bad for osama, he will never got to see it
Ortiz has no lateral movement whatsoever, I can't believe people think this would be a tough fight for Floyd.
Floyd on Ortiz?
Come on Ortiz is up and coming guy, i guess its to much for him for Floyd
I dont buy this shit yes hes younger maybe more stronger and heart, but again hes just average young coming up, coming up from a Bertos win? he he he
Imo i see another Floyd Jr.-Gatti in the making, and the worst case scenario ORTIZ will just quit.![]()
Hate the idea of this fight, despite being a Mayweather fan. Getting tired of the run around. Point blank, its a foregone conclusion that Mayweather wants to pick Ortiz clean of his title. While I don't think that Ortiz should be protected, He's the type of fighter that Boxing needs with a title right now. A guy that stepped up to a challenge worked on his game, found his heart and was rewarded richly for it.
Mayweather right now is not what boxing needs.. he gets the belt which is enough to keep him in a pound for pound running while he retires with it and sits around idle for another few months, talking crap from behind a webcam. I'd be in no rush to see this ones.. given how this waters down everything even further. Sorry Floyd, wake me when you're serious about sticking around or making a statement besides "Hi remember me?"
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Although I understand Manny's position in not giving in to Floyd's demand in the first negotiation, I had wished that he just called in the bluff for I really do not think that Mayweather wants to fight him. This was revealed in the second negotiation. What is Floyd's excuse in that negotiation ..... that he is going on vacation? THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO NEED FOR A TUNE-UP IF HE AGREED TO FIGHT THEN!!! Floyd scheduling a fight a few days before a Pacquiao fight gives him an excuse for people not to clamor that he fights Pacquiao.
to soon for ortiz I think, give the kid a couple more big fights but not against mayweather yet. Who knows tho ortiz is a tough fucker, call him a quiter for the maidana fight but he was kded three times and taking some hellacious shots. Either ortiz would manage to pull off something close to a miracle and beat floyd into submission, or the more likely scenario is floyd does his usual and wins a ud.
I can't believe this thread is going to be more than 2 pages.
HOW in the world is this a conversation![]()
Now Floyd is certainly a mega PPV draw, but for the live gate he hasn't sold out unless he had an elite "big name opponent" that is a live gate draw. I only know of two live gate sellouts for Mayweather and that is DLH and Mosley. I'm inclined to agree with the poster.
The Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas still are pending, but the live gate totaled $6,811,300, according to figures filed Thursday Sept. 24, 2009 by Golden Boy Promotions with the Nevada Athletic Commission.
The live gate was based on 12,009 tickets sold from a total of 13,116 distributed.
