He's a top contender, I'm amazed that you have a problem with this considering how much emphasis you place on the old guys facing top contenders.

The idea Victor Ortiz is a top contender is one of the saddest concepts I've seen in a while

But you make a fair point!

Maybe, but Mayweather & Pacquiao aside there's no better 147lber. He beat the best other guy.

I also think Ortiz is better than being given credit for by many here. I think he's big & strong enough to cause some real problems to Mayweather, who I don't believe hits as hard as Maidana or Berto.

Especially when you consider the fact that he is the Champion in this fight

    ........

I think the thing that interests me most is the idea that Ortiz is effectively another 'youth & aggression' fighter while Mayweather will be 34 1/2 and I'm just now starting to wonder if there's any rust setting in?
He seemed fine against Marquez but I had some reservations about his legs in the Mosley fight so I'm keen to see how he does...

This is the sort of fight an old man looses.

Floyd Mayweather wins this fight easily.

    He's a level above Ortiz.

Looking forward to another masterclass of hitting and not being hit for twelve punishing rounds for Ortiz.

    Default The truth

Lets just think for a second. Mayweather has defeated everyone directly or in directly responsiable for pacmans superstardom. He out boxes a supersized De la hoya, then he kos an undefeated Richy hatton after out boxing and punishing him to the body for 10 rounds, then he out boxed Marquez for 12 rounds and made it look easy, and let me say this, weight had nothing to do with it, it was pure boxing that neutralized Marquezs attack. Then he whipped Moesly by out boxing him,Moesly was coming off a career high win looking better than he had in recent years. Now Mayweather is preparing to beat a young hungry fast strong hard hitting big as hell welter weight that many believe is the best mexican boxer to come along in recent years. Before the Mandaina fight they were calling him the new golden boy

Now lets break down pac mans recent fights that lead him to stardom in the eyes of the blind. Starting with De la hoya, he was weight drained and needed an IV because of dehydration from weight draining. Even then Pacman couldnt finish him, Oscar quit because he had no energy and could not defend himself. Hatton was damage aswell due to the beating he took from P4P CHAMP Mayweather Jr. Coming off of his 1st loss that was the beginning of the end of his career. The mental beating was equal to the physical beating he took from Mayweather. Roach new this and said it many times leading up to the fight. He also said the same for Dela hoya leading up to the Pacman fight. Next poor wash up x champ was Cotto. God knows he took a very bad beating from Tony and he will never be the same. Roach knew this and they jump to fight the washed up Cotto. Then comes Clottey, who know one outside the boxing community knew. He has lost every major fight hes been in. Very rugged but no real skills, plus its been rumored he was paid off not to fight back. Is its true? I don't know but it sure as hell looked that way. Then there was Margarita, who was knocked out by Moesly, then suspended from boxing, causing a long lay off after being ko'ed. Roach thought this was a good opponant for pacman, lol. Then there was moesly who was defeated and embarresed by the great Mayweather. When Moesly was hot and dangerous who fought him ? Mayweather! Who didn't? Pacman. After being defeated and embaressed twicein a row. Roach saw fit to fight him. Are you seeeing a patterned yet? If your an x champ coming off of a loss by knock out then you can expect a call from team pacman. When will Pacman fight a true champion, meaning someone who comes to win. A young strong hungry hard hitting boxer coming off of a string of victories not losses. No catch weights , no IV'S. MAYWEATHER IS SINGLE HANDEDLY SAVING BOXING. Please look at the press, news, websites, forums, ESPN. All the talk about Mayweather vs Ortiz, not Pacman vs Marquez, thats been done twice already. Why not fight Berto, hes coming off a loss, lol.

Very unlikely, but I give Ortiz a slim chance. Anybody knows how much Ortiz will get for this fight? And if there is a rematch clause on the contract?

Man, this thread reminded me why I don't post here anymore...Found out this fight was happening from my friend on the weekend and thought I'd come here and take a look at everyone's reaction..

LOL same old double standards flying around here I see

"Floyd is a pussy, taking on Ortiz too scared to fight Pacman..blah blah" - erm, Floyd fights a live Welterweight champ (after dismantling the lineal Welterweight champ who the same people said Floyd was SCARED of before he signed to fight him..and then the same peeps said afterwards that he was "washed up" anyway...the same people who belittle Floyd's Welterweight credentials when his welterweight fights will have included 3 welterweight champs and a lineal welterweight champ.) But apparently, the fight is still not good enough?

It's like someone said - He can't win the fans over no matter what he does.
Then somebody responded with "He can do one thing to win over the fans"..well my response to that is that he already did do the thing that most people said would "win them over and make them respect Floyd", which was fight Mosley when everyone was accusing him of being scared.

He wins in easy fashion and of course, Mosley was old.."Oh Mayweather's gay until he fights Pac now.."

I sometimes wonder whether these posters ever listen to themselves..

I even remember reading a post once where Daxx said, "Floyd is gonna get steam-rolled by Baldomir..This is too big a step" - LOL But of course Floyd boxes rings around the guy and Baldomir instantly becomes the joke of the Welterweight division.

And the guy who said "Floyd fights every 18 months, just enough time for everyone to forget the last stinker he had"...

Wow...Floyd's last 3 fights - Mosley, Marquez and Hatton..If you enjoyed those offensive boxing masterclasses less than you enjoyed Pac vs Mosley, Clottey and Margarito then you have a few screws loose.

Even when there is proof when Freddie Roach in a video said they ducked Mosley before Mayweather took the fight..people turn a blind eye. Hilarious..they wanted Mosley at 142, but Floyd's the pussy of course.

This has turned into the forum for the mentally insane...Apologies to the consistent posters, you know who you are - Miles, JT Rock, Mar etc although this double standards doesn't seem to exist around other boxers - It's just when the topic of these 2 fighters comes up, some posters make it unbearable!

This is what it is - Floyd taking on the best possible, available opponent besides Pac and Martinez. Pac is next..

Nope, there's no double standards. BOTH Pacquiao and Mayweather get criticized for fighting anyone else.

I believe Ortiz gives him more trouble than people think, but Mayweather still wins a decision.

Well Ortiz should at least put up a better show than the last two. I'm actually slightly compelled by this match up.

I find it interesting how everybody gets a heart attack whenever we hear of Floyd facing someone that is not Manny. But have Manny pick fights such as Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, JMM in a weight he has shown to NOT be effective, etc. who are no threats what so ever, and nobody says a thing.

Real talk... There is clearly a double standard.
