Also for those that don't believe that styles make fights, and that everyone has their kryptonite, I will remind you of Jones Jr and Tarver....
I agree. I have visited this forum for a while and LOVE boxing. Though a typical reader, I couldn't help but throw my own 2 cents in on this one.
I am very interested in others opinions either way. Regardless of who you think won, I believe it was a great fight, great chess match!
So then why does everyone that says Marquez won the first two fights use stats as an argument that he won? The stats have meaning you just don't agree in this fight they do. Marquez lost this fight and it was was his weakest performance of the three. I was bored out of my mind the first 4 rounds.
anyone citing compubox punch stats needs to take them with a grain of salt.
they said after kirkland/angulo that angulo was 37 of 74 in the first round. Just for fun I counted the number of punches that Angulo threw from the second Kirkland got up from the knockdown till the 1:08 mark of round 1. It was over 80. Add in the 18-20 Angulo threw before Kirkland went down, and the few punches Angulo attemped in the final 1:08 of hte round and compubox was only off by about 30 or so punches.
Their punch stats missed 30 or so punches.
For the Haye vs Valuev fight, they had Haye throwing 144 punches or 12 punches a round. So if a guy only throws 12 punches a round you would figure they would be pretty damn accurate. Well, a coouple of people actually watched the fight and counted and they were off. Haye threw 13 punches a round. So in a fight where a guy threw 13 punches per round (which is so few my 4 yr old son could count them), compubox was off by 12 total punches. That is pretty pathetic.
Again amir khan had this fight to jmm that's all you need to know about whether this was a robbery
You also count a fight on a round by round basis. The overall punch count is oftentimes a pretty irrelevant statistic. It also doesn't highlight where the effective power shots are landed either. Everything is counted the same and that isn't how you score a fight.
Yes. They track "POWER PUNCHES" Manny landed more.. Not much more but more nuntheless,,
He was the busy fighter of the two.. And he was the Champ.. You always have to beat the champ convincingly.. It;s been that way forever.. I've already said that..
And Marquez didn't so he lost... NEXT!
