Is this a F$%^#&* JOKE? The post should be the other way around...How would Wright do against Hearns is a better question. Don't get me wrong I like Wright and IMO he is one of the best fighters in the world P4P but he is no Hearns...Wink has beaten Trinidad and Mosley and has had a close fight with Taylor If he would have got the nod I for one would not have questioned the decision but how does that make him able to beat Hearns
Tommy is a bonafied legend who has been in some not good but great fights win or lose he has been there....He fought when everyone was good not just a few...His KO straight right money shot is one of awe and legend....I could go on about Hearns all day but I won't I will say this though...Watch Hearns KO Shuler, Cuevas, Duran and tell me how many of those Wright or even Taylor can take of those...Look at the way he boxed with leonard in the first fight and with Benitez....Tell me that Wright is any better than Tommy was on those night's....When have you seen Wright or Taylor go at it for 3 rds with a guy like Hagler (who IMO Wright or Taylor also could not beat)......
It takes more than a few good wins and a fraw against past prime fighters and a guy who may not be all he seems to be.....
Like I said I like both Wright and Taylor but neither deserve to be in the company of Hearns

I love Wright,P4P number 1 or 2 for sure and has fought some great fighters but NONE compare to Thomas Hearns! I think we are doing that, whats the term, revisionism I think?? Lessening the achievements of these legends(Hearns). So I fully concur with the above quoted statement from Daxx,CC my friend.

Wright is getting there imo, but thank you overall it's a great post(though I think a fight between these two really would be close). CC

Benitez had a good guard...but not as good as Wright's. If I can't compare the way that I think Hearns would perform accordingly to Tito...why are you allowed to compare a loooooooooong gone fighter to one of today's?

The same reason that I can compare the way I think Hearns would fair against Wright.

The answer to the above questions...both YES. I do...& yes...you do.

Don't know. I think that in the future everyone will be talking about some of our current super stars...but our generation is a bit over-spoiled with our fighters of old & current crop, IWO. There's some real heart & talent out there that just don't get their dues.

Wev'e had it so good for so long that we just keep on expecting more & more & more.

Kind of unfair to our champions IWO.

its nothing to do with underestimating current boxers its to do with hearns is taller stronger and faster and wrights guard alone wouldnt help him hearns by ud hearns struggled against hard hitters because he hasnt got the best chin wrights ko record is 50 wins 25 kos i dont think wright has the power to affect hearns so he wouldnt really struggle with wright at all i dont think

I think Hagler would bulldoze him.

Winkys best results were against two blown up and shot welters.

Taylor is yet to fully mature as a fighter. Give him two years and look at his form then.

Taylor does NOT hit as hard as Herans!

Winky does not hit hard full stop.

Winky has a good guard but is not exactly the defensive wizard that Benitez was (jus responding to previous arguments).

Hearns could give any1 angles all night long.

Aggression is needed to beat Hearns. Not two hands in front of your face.

In my opinion, Any of the fantastic four would of beat Winky.

I think the problem when you compare Benitez to Wright is that Wilfred was not hit because of his head and upper body movement. Winky uses gloves and a jab to keep guys honest.. They hit the gloves and at the same time he has such a nice straight jab that guys cannot get set to punch him. But Hearns has a better jab and fast. With Wilfred Benitez, Hearns hurt his right hand in that fight and decided to outbox Wilfred, since he saw how Wilfred had knocked out Maurice Hope with one right hand to win the title, Tommy didn't want to make a stupid mistake. Hearns usually fought smarter with the better fighters he fought.. With Barkley he made dumber mistakes than when he would fight Duran or Benitez.. Seems like his focus was off with the lesser guys. So Tommy outboxed Wilfred and used his jab and combinations to win a 15 round decision. Wright doesn't have as much head movement as Wilfred, and does more coverering up with gloves and basically does what Marlon Starling used to, yet Winky has a better jab and sets his punches up with that and counters beautifully. Southpaw stance gives him another big edge, but with Hearns the straight right works nice for Hearns... Hearns would be able to jab between the gloves and land left hook body shots eventually and be more offensive minded than he was against Wilfred. Wright might get his jab working a little, but no one really does well with the jab with Tommy. Eventually the hands of Wright would drop and Hearns would get the right hand in, yet I am not sure Tommy would stop Wright, but he would set up winning the rounds one at at time and win a decision. Wright has not fought a guy with the jab and right hand of Hearns. I think the Hearns who fought Leonard with the simple jab and right hand outboxes Wright. With Ray, Hearns always became the jab and right hand man and didn't mix many shots because he knew Ray would counter alot of shots. So he made it simple, that would work with Winky. Hearns unanimous decision.
