Actually I gotta say this turned out to be a really good thread with some good points from both sides. I like it.

I want Oscar to win but am not 100% sure if he would which makes this fight more fun. When you see Cotto face someone like Gomez or Oscar someone like Forbes, sure, its entertaining but not as fun since the challenge is not really there. You just don't see any risk of loosing. But with Cotto and Oscar, hhhhmmm I can see it going either way now.
Forbes is not considered to have a KO punch and Oscar didn't come out clean from that fight. Imagine when he faces someone that punches like Cotto. Still, I give Oscar the edge for the reasons already mentioned.
Hey Chino , sure the difference between Oscar and Cotto is that Oscar can choose his opponents and Cotto dont.........
But cmon Chino you know that Oscar now isnt the same bro...i cant see his Stamina can end a fight with Cotto at the way that he still getting improvements right now...................![]()
Hey Macho!
Sure, choosing and not choosing his opponents doesn't take away the fact that he can be beaten by Cotto or whoever he "chooses".
Sure, I'll agree with you that he isn't the same and that is why I can see it going either way. Now, if this fight took place 5 years ago I would not have a single doubt that Cotto would loose, agree? Now, I have my doubts about ODLH winning but then again Cotto has been exposed in almost all his fights getting cut, getting rocked, slow, questionable jaw, one-dimensional, etc. I can see Cotto wearing Oscar down to a decision or maybe even a KO but I also see Oscar connecting a good left to that questionable jaw to make Cotto dance all over the ring and maybe have the fight stop if Oscar throws those flurries of punches.
People have been talking about Oscar getting KOed with a punch to the body but that only happened with Hopkins and after that it has all been good. I talk about Cotto getting rocked, cut, slow, having a questionable jaw, etc. not because of one fight but because of almost all his fights. Still, if someone can beat Oscar at the moment, I'll say its Cotto. I see his flaws but I also see the power of his punches, just look at most of his opponents faces after the fights. What do you see in Oscar that gives him an edge?
I'd go with Cotto. DLH would make things interesting for the 1st half of the fight but he'd tire as he always does & against Cotto that spells trouble. I don't see Cotto stopping the Golden Boy but I think he dominates down the stretch to win a deserved decision.
The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
I actually think oscar would rather enjoy having cotto attack him from the off and make the fight an out and out slugfest.
It would be his best chance of getting anything from the fight and we all know how susceptible miguel is early on in fights to taking some big shots.
Just like with marg if oscar can set his stool out early and dictate the pace of the contest he has every chance. But cotto is great at slowly turning a fight into his kind of contest because he is able to hurt you on the backfoot even when things arent going particularly well for him.
Both men have decent right hands, but cottos big lefts are far more devestating than ODLH and i would seriously question ODLHs ability to take too many of those stinging left hooks cotto throws to the body.
Don't get me wrong Chino , i don't want say that Cotto could defeat Oscar easy , Oscar has a great respectable experience , but the edge that i give him is the Stamina , he since the last fight with Forbes he did not look good IMO , Cotto is getting much better with his speed , Jabs , counter punches , defense , footwork , technical boxing etc......
If we could talk in the time when Oscar fought with Trinidad , man .......probably the things would change , Oscar on that fight looked very astonishing , to me IMO he won that fight against Trinidad , i know that he ran the last 3 rounds , but looked Great with his all technicals skills , he shown what really is Boxing.................
Now he is different , i like his Style that has now , but with Cotto , this is the wrong Style that he could utilize....................![]()
I am curious to see how De La Hoya handle all body punches that he will be receiving thru the fight. Cotto stops De La Hoya in the late rounds...

After Oscar lose to Hopkins people started to question Oscar's ability to take body punches over and over. Since Hopkins, I am yet to see Oscar being KOed by a body punch or seriously injured. I think it’s a bit overrated to say in every fight that a single punch to the body will totally destroy him. I mean, the possibility is there of course. It's not only one fight where I have seen Cotto getting rocked/dazed, about to get the fight stopped, cut, slow, etc.
Interesting how nobody mentions Cotto's weaknesses. I root for Oscar but I can see his weaknesses specially now that he's past his prime.
I don't think Cotto will KO De La Hoya with just a body punch as Hopkins did. He will worn out De La Hoya with a steady, methodic attack to the body. Of course in that effort he has to be very careful of not opening his defense too much. I have seen previous fights were Cotto has received several right hands to the head (watch the fight with N'Dou), which I have to admit surprised me a lot because he could not adjust his defense at that moment. However, I think that it was a moment where he wanted to change his style for being almost 100% aggressor (I think tried to copy Tito's style) and forgot his boxing. I have seen that he went back and he is fighting in a smarter way. I think Cotto has to be very careful during the first 6 rounds, but then it should be all Cotto.

I think DLH is just about done, the Forbes fight proved that.
He will get his fight against Cotto later this year and lose but be wary that Cotto is a lot easier to hit than Mayweather and DLH still has one of the best left Hooks in the business, Cotto may just walk right into one of them!
