Bowe had a very short peak, he was overweight in his defences after he beat Holyfield to win the title.

There are reasons for that other than just his weight

George Foreman was a master finisher.

I think this thread is filled with some sour-ass Big Daddy haters.

    That's what's up.

Eddie Futch knew what's up when he said Bowe had the most talent of anyone he ever trained.

That means Bowe > Arguello, Bob Foster, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Mike MCCallum, Ken Norton, and Michael Spinks.

    THAT'S what's up.

Real brave of you guys to call Futch a lying piece of shit now that he's dead. Have you no respect for boxing??

Not the greatest fighters but in terms of pure punching power could bang pretty hard. Never seen any evidence that punching power would bother Bowe any more than the average boxer. Bowe always showed a solid chin.
And the list of fighters in the division during Bowe's era: Lewis, Tyson, Foreman, Rudduck, Morrison, Briggs, Mercer, Rahman, Tua, Corrie Sanders, etc.

Herbie "214 pounds" Hide and Jorge Luis "My Biggest Win Was over an ancient Renoldo Snipes" Gonzales weren't the greatest fighters to test that chin. Holyfield knocked him down and Golota rocked him more than a few times....but of course by then Bowe was done for.
Jorge Gonzalez and that wall sample piece of shag rug glued to the back of his head were a circus act. I've literally watched him score a "ko" when a guy fell down and shat his trunks

Sitting here watching prime-ish Bowe swap leather and be stunned by Coetzer. I think people forget how he could be sucked in and did some slugging, killing the range and he was not some backfoot of light on the feet. Range needs discipline and focus, we're talking Bowe. Chins are great except when you consistently have to prove them

Yeah but Bowe proved his chin enough times where I don't think you can reasonably bring it into question. Bowe got rocked and continued and he ate punches from a lot of real bangers and stayed upright.

Foreman never fought anyone who could be compared to prime Riddick Bowe TBH, at least not in his early career. Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Ali... they weren't like Bowe.

Prime Bowe would have given Foreman at any stage in his career a whipping, that's what's up.

I'm not doubting anything the great Eddie Futch said about Riddick Bowe, nor am I doubting Bowe was an extremely talented fighter. But as Spicoli said his technique and style required discipline and we're talking Riddick Bowe and that's why he had a short prime.

George Foreman vs a guy who was all too willing to stand and trade when it was not beneficial to him....Foreman wins every single time! I'm sorry, but you're never going to out bomb George Foreman. Frazier couldn't do it, Ron Lyle couldn't do it, Michael Moorer couldn't do it and all those guys could punch.

Yeah but nobody is saying "let's see who can have the longest career", we're talking one night only, one fight, prime vs prime. If you're talking discipline, longevity, ect, Foreman wins, that's not even debatable. He won a world title at 45.

We're talking one fight, one night, prime vs prime, 1992 Riddick Bowe, 1975 George Foreman. Both guys in the best shape of their lives.

And I'm not saying Bowe is going to out-bomb Foreman. But he would out jab him, he was faster, he was more accurate, he had more skill on the inside and the outside, and he had a wider variety of weapons.

Boxing isn't all about who punches harder.

We're asking what bombers Bowe fought... well what bombers did George fight? Frazier had big power in the left but no right hand, usually wore guys down. Ken Norton wasn't a bomber. Even Ron Lyle wasn't a big bomber, he could hit hard no doubt but he wasn't blasting guys out in the first few rounds.

Herbie Hide hit harder than all of them. Not saying he was a better fighter, but in terms of pure power he hit harder.

George ducked Earnie Shavers too, according to Shavers. George never fought big punchers, he went out of his way to avoid them. He wanted to be the guy with the big punch in the ring.

George fought Gerry Cooney in his comeback, George fought Shannon Briggs, Tommy Morrison, Michael Moorer...contemporaries of Bowe whom Bowe never fought.

In 1992 in the peak of his prime even then Riddick Bowe was flawed...George Foreman was ALWAYS dangerous. He could eat jabs a few rounds, but as soon as a big punch landed Riddick Bowe, much like Arturo Gatti, would give up sweet science boxing for a brawl and in doing that he'd open the door for Foreman to end the fight which he would.
