Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?

And while he's startin get hype from the media, he isn't getting "saviour of boxing hype" ala broner, plus its much easier to like a guy when he's not constantly claiming to be the best thing since sliced butter. Obviously he still has to prove himself as elite, and well he can only beat who'll get in the ring with him. from all accounts sturm wasn't to fond of getting in the ring, nor is degale. I do think he'd be less effective at 168 and id make him underdog to the top 2 or 3 guys there, but he'd be a live dog, but with his body he really should stay at 160.

Of course he's going to get hyped and especially by HBO and as Max said last night on Hbo's The Fight Game, its getting to the point where an actual boxing contest is considered boring and almost taboo. That is not verbatim but its the jist of it. Instant gratification runs this planet and why should boxing be any different? They better be careful though because the middleweight division is not all that deep. They might hype themselves right out of the contest.

Good post. Golovkin is special. I HATE HYPE! I can not stand endless hype especially when it is predicated on little more then pure potential. Whatever GGG has, it's something special. I am on the hype train, he has power that is just unreal and he fights so Damn calm. Not saying he's Mayweather or Pacquaio but to me he is just as captivating right now.

I think Martinez is old now and has been getting older, but they have to fight. You have to fight him and pass the torch on. I don't see what Martinez could do with his fading legs and hands down style. I can see him getting stopped in 6. Prime Martinez would do much better, but he isn't in his prime with all these injuries and age creeping up.

Spot on. If Martinez wants a fight before facing Golovkin, then fair enough, but at some point he has to see him. The only way I would ever rationalize him not seeing him is if he got a Mayweather fight, but I doubt that happens.

Other than that he has to move up as Floyd is a nonstarter. I'd like to see him fight Froch. I think that's definitely in my top three fights I'd like to see.

I think Mayweather is the best option for Martinez. It's a big name for Floyd to sell a PPV with ans Martinez is still technically a pound for pound guy. Martinez gets a big final payday, Floyd gets the credit for beating him.

Whether or not he's the real deal doesn't so much matter to me because he's fun to watch and he seems to carry himself like a true man and well he's the anti-Broner. That alone is a big point for Golovkin's.

If 154's are willing to spar him i'm sure any other weight up from that is. However from reading this article it sounds like Doug Fischer said Golovkin was abit too much for Alvarez is a subtle way.

Golovkin comes across as that rare type fighter, and probably the only figter that you could compare to Kostya Tsyzu, “His right hand is like a laser beam. It reminds me of Kostya Tszyu’s right. The way he holds his hands also reminds me of Tszyu. Come to think of it, Golovkin kind of looks of like Tszyu. He’s got the same muscle tone, Central Asian facial features and oil-black hair (sans the pigtail).” Its refreshing to see and i think it adds to the Hype. But from what i have seen of this guy, its not impossible to think that he may become one of Boxing all time greats.

I'm starting to become a believer.

Theres no hiding that lil faded Ouma went 11 rounds and Rosado went 7 or so, but Golovkin seems to get you sooner or later.

He was utterly in control with Macklin, a proven fighter, from the opening bell and he has that seek and destroy style much like Matthysse.

Everybody loves a KO puncher so why not?

I worry for Martinez after his last fight, the Martinez who beat Pavlik could handle Golovkin, but now I don't know.

Martinez in his prime would frankly stand no chance of beating GGG,! Sergio is a great light-middle
but hardly a beast at the higher weight.
The Middle weight division, has not been a great division for some time its not littered with top flight
contenders is it,! but I have a feeling its going to get a lot more interesting with Golovkin about.

It's just so funny what people believe, HBO now makes most people think Crawford is the best lightweight in a division that has Abril and Vazquez and they have made people think GGG is better than prime Martinez. If he was signed to Golden Boy you would see no hype, truly hype gone insane.

I do not suffer being starstruck by HBO or any one else,! Golovkin is a very good fighter remember
he is a proper Middle-Weight. Look at the fighter not the network, I've seen many fighters through
the years, and it takes a special fighter for me to take interest, GGG is the real deal no Hype no
bullshit.
