Painful to watch more like. Look he's the money maker of the division but that does not mean he gets to fight like its 1865. Why not bring back grappling? Fight after fight this guy does this. Are the refs not aware of this?

We're always lamenting boxing's loss of fans. How can we do that on the one hand, and applaud efforts like Klitschko's on the other? It's not hating on Wlad to point this shit out. It's caring about the sport of boxing. Wlad may very well go down in history as one of the most dominant HW's in history... given in part by the shit division he fights in nowadays. But that doesn't excuse a poor, "un-fan-friendly" performance that is bound to turn many boxing fans off. Why can't we just call a spade a spade when need be? Facts are... it was a horrible fight.... the ref did a piss poor job of controlling the action and by not admonishing Wlad more during the fight... Wlad put on a shameful exhibition of grappling and pulling Povetkin's head down... etc, etc.

Well exactly. And I dont think the word "dominant" should be used in the same sentence as Wlad. He's not dominating anyone. He's winning. I was actually cheering for the guy and naively thought that there might be some bad blood. The history of the two countries and the fact that Povetkin ducked him at least twice made for a nice back drop. I also believed we might see a Brock type fight.
Instead I was reminded as to why I never cheered for the man. FFS if they would have deducted points for even half the flagrant fouls Povetkin would have gotten a draw.

Its not just this ref. Its every ref in almost every fight. They simply look the other way like its part of some code in a Wlad fight.

You're absolutely right. Luis Pabon isn't the first ref to let Wlad get away with shady tactics.
He's only the latest one.

I thought to myself Saturday night 'Shall I wake up at 5am and watch it?' Thankfully I stayed reasonable and judging by all accounts it was a sensible decision. You know how Wlad fights and you all should know better by now. I heard it compared to Mayweather, but not at all. Mayweather is not exciting, but he has movement and athleticism, backed up with an amazing defence. Wlad doesn't have any of what Mayweather does, it is like Ruiz only far worse and all because he is too scared to fight. Learn your lessons, ignore his fights.

how can any boxing or non boxing fan have watched that on saturday night and say that it was a fair fight or that the fight was within the rules?

holding is against the rules and that was his major weapon in the fight, he did more damage with the clinches than he did with punches

i agree, it doesnt happen enough, but its one thing holding on when you are hurt or every now and again to take a breath but basing your strategy on it is the other world

i wasnt around when ali was around and i havent watched his fights start to finish so i cant really comment on the amount of holding/cheating he did

i also think that ali is considered the greatest because of what he represented as much as his skills in the ring

the first champ that i really watched was tyson and all those since, yes there has always been holding and rule bending in boxing

but i have never seen anything to the extreme of saturday night (and wlads previous fights) and the holding and clinching was extremely extreme

I mean my favorite fighter is Holyfeild and his best weapon was his head at times but fair enough like the answer. As for the holding i don't think he has ever done it like he did last night watch the guy for a while he most of the time jabs his way to victory and ties up when bummed rushed but i think that is more of size thing. I mean got a fighter you are much bigger then you running in it kinda makes for awkward scene.

mate his size is a big asset and he could be a great fighter

if you take away or even half the holding he wouldnt have had things even nearly as comfortable as he has in his previous fights

also the HW division would have been much more entertaining over the last 6 or whatever years
