This would be a superb fight. I'd be totally torn on who to root for as I'm a big fan of both. Great fight, lets just hope Geale doesn't ruin it.

    What catchweight? Haha

Seriously, we will have a "Jr Middleweight" who campaigns at 155 against a "Middleweight" who campaigns at 157. There is absolutely no need for a catchweight but these divas will probably make the fight at 156 to appease eaches enormous ego.

It should be at 154. Cotto seems intent on being the new Butterbean.

I like Cotto and Canelo and if they get it on, good luck to them. But if Geale does beat Cotto (and I think as long as he's not weight drained , it's a very real prospect.), then it's too bad. I don't think it would be a massive upset.
When he got KO'd by GGG he hit Golovkin with some big shots and I don't know if Cotto will take those. Look back at that fight and you'll see just as GGG KO'd Geale, Geale hit GGG with a peach of a shot, but it just had no effect. GGG isn't just a banger, he definitely has a solid chin.

Yeah some Cotto haters dismiss his choice of Geale as an opponent saying Geale ain't shit... but in all honesty they know little of the guy, who just isn't all that well known in some circles but is a pretty good MW in his own right.

I don't have any problem with him fighting Geale, I think it's a legit test for a guy who, despite being a linear MW champ, we don't know is a true MW.

Cotto had a choice: be a middleweight or move back down to 154 and be a junior middleweight. By fighting Geale, in my eyes that's him saying "I want to be a middleweight". Well if you want to be a middleweight, and you want to be the middleweight champion of the world, you have to fight GGG after Geale. The fact that he's opting for Canelo instead is disgraceful IMO and is a perfect example of why boxing has gone to shit in the public's eye.

Chances are he (Geale) won't. But Cotto has to stop Canelo if he wants to win. Let's face it, Cotto is on the way out. Quicker if he were to fight GGG, then there would be nothing left after he gets dominated by GGG. If Cotto wants his last big win, then knocking out Canelo would be the best bet.

Let's face it: Canelo is the upside, post-marketable name.

Generally I don't have a problem with catchweights but even I think this is frigging bollocks. If you're gonna masquerade as the middleweight champ then the opponent should at least be allowed to weigh 160.

There's no penalty clause if Geale comes in above 157. So if he weighs in at 160 the WBC would still have to recognize the fight. Would Cotto/Roc Nation pull the plug? (stolen from Steve Kim)

Hope gets his ass kicked Trout style so the divsion can have a real champ like it should. GGG going to be waiting for ever at this point and that is just bs no repsect for it at all.

He already beat the real champ, which means Cotto is the real champ. Golovkin never beat the man in the division yet you're calling him the real champ because he has a superb knockout ratio. I genuinely think it's dumb to be hating on a guy who's had one fight at Middleweight and beaten the guy who was #1 to do it. Geale is his 2nd fight at the weight FFS. There guys such as Peter Quillin who have always fought at Middleweight who won't go near a fucking live body at their own weightclass who don't receive as much hate as this.

Hard to respect Cotto but have to assume that he is all about making money and taking minimal risks.

this isnt a fore gone conclusion

    geales miles bigger than cotto

would cotto Sturm be a miss match?

i am a cotto fan, always have been but i dont reckon he would last a couple of rounds with golovkin

Geale v Cotto is an evenly matched fight

Cotto's people are idiots for not having a penalty in the contract and Geale is an idiot if he doesn't come in at 160.
