Wacko's Drunken 3 Way Split RBR: Peter Long - the Peterson's - Raheem Freitas!
Welcome one & welcome all to the DRBR!!! Finally...the weekend is here & it's going to be a busy one!
First off...on ESPN's Friday Night Fights we got another shot in the arm for the heavyweight division.
Sam Peter (25 wins with 21 ko's & 1 loss) is back in the spot light as he plods through the ranks takin on Julius Long (14 wins with 12 ko's & 7 losses) as we settle in for FNF's main event. This fight is basically going to serve as a barometer for Peter's future. A lot of hopes were placed upon Sam Peter's broad shoulders when he stepped up against Wladimir Klitschko last year...but all that weight proved to be more than he could carry. Personally...I think that first & foremost...that fight was just too big of a step for the young & inexperienced prospect & Peter's team was relying more on Wlad's uncertainties than they were Peter's assets.
Be that as it may...Peter did fairly well, IWO, for someone as green as he is...especially compared to the amount of time that Wlad has logged inside the square circle.
Many have written Sam Peter off...& that is a shame. Peter brings a lot of excitement to the game & he can also set a lot of matches worthy enough of the heavyweight days of old.
I gotta pick Peter by late round TKO as Long appears to have a bit of a questionable chin. If Harrison was able to check him...I gotta lean towards the fact that Peter can.
Win, lose, or draw...should be a fun night.
Then...for our second dose...we gonna flip flop over to cable & hit up ShowTime in hopes of catching another fine display by the 16-0 Peterson brothers!
Lamont Peterson (16 wins with 7 ko's) will face rugged southpaw Mario Jose Ramos (16 wins with 3 ko's, 2 losses & 1 draw) in a 10-round matchup. Anthony Peterson (16 wins with 13 ko's) is set to take on undefeated Jermaine White (12 wins with 7 ko's) at the 4 Bears Casino in North Dakota.
Should be a fun filled evening there also...but depending on the way the Sam Peter match falls on time...it's gonna be an iffy RBR to say the least...but I am game & it should be quite fun to flip from channel to channel...just to see if I can operate a remote, cocktail, & keyboard at the same time!!!
Can't wait.
Now...let's get down to the real matter at hand:
Last but not least...HBO is showcasing two of the games most underrated & unappreciated talents on Boxing After Dark as Zahir Raheem (27 wins with 16 ko's & 1 loss) matches skills against power as he takes on Acelino Freitas (37 wins with 32 ko's & 1 loss) in a fight for the vacant WBO Lightweight strap.
The fight cranks up on Saturday night April 29 at 10:15 p.m. & it should be a scorcher!
Raheem & Freitas are the main event & the opening fight is another eight rounder for budding middleweight sensation Andre Ward. The 2004 U.S. Olympian is still running undefeated & garnering accolades of fans. It's a bit too early for ole' Wacko to jump on that train...but I'll watch with open eyes...& that's about the best you'll get outta me on this one.
Now...back to the real matter at hand.
This is one of those fights that quite often...Wacko begs for. This fight could turn into a true classic. Freitas has the power...Raheem has the skills...& that often makes for a sensational fight...then thing about this one...the monkey wrench in the mix is that Freitas can also box on top of being able to crack!
Anyone that sat through Freitas's recent loss to Corrales had to feel that Freitas was ahead on the cards until he tasted Corrales's power. I don't remember the exact scoring of that fight before he got dropped...but I do recall Freitas being ahead before he just flat out bailed out of the fight.
Many fans & boxing enthusiasts have bailed out on Freitas as easily as he bailed out on the fight in the 9th...again...that's as much of a shame as people bailing on Sam Peter after his loss to Klitschko. Maybe Freitas can redeem himself by stopping or decisioning Raheem.
That's a hard answer in itself. Last year in September Raheem pulled of the unthinkable by boxing circles around HOFer Erik Morales. Raheem...let's put it bluntly...outclasse d Morales on all fronts unexpectedly. No one believed that he would make it out of the fight on his feet...much less put on such a dominating performance...but make it out & dominate is just exactly what King Raheem did.
Politics & a lack of exposure kept Raheem on the back burner until the Freitas match came along & once again Raheem will have a chance to show the world his greatness as these two collide in what should be a brilliant tactical match up.
I'm gonna go with Raheem by a hard 12 round SD.
All that mess being said...it's time for yet another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round By Round...so...as always...break out the chips & salsa...pour up your poison of choice, grab that remote, & pick your spot on the couch...it's gonna be a looooooooooong weekend!
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches. Let's get down to biz-nass!
