Default What would a pro boxers training routine be, if he's NOT preparing for a fight?

I read on here that the pro's don't train all day long when there's not an upcoming fight like they do when there is one.

How does a pro train when there currently is no fight coming up? How many rounds of bagwork, shadowboxing, sparring, etc.?? (How long do the rounds last, also)

you can't keep the same intensity that you would if you where training for a fight going for long, a month... maybe two max before you'd burn out.

Outside of fights boxers keep active but don't train as frequently or as intensly as when they are preparing for a bout, thats what camps are for... its called periodization.

Vodka, as for how many rounds they do on a bag etc, every thletes training is specific to their sport, their style and their body and current fitness level.

    Smoking marijuana (Naz)
    Selling Crack cocaine (Tyrell Biggs)
    Running workmen over (Chris Eubank)
    Murdering their girlfriends (Carlos Monzon)
    Overeating (Ricky Hatton)
    Smuggling Drugs (Chuck Wepner)
    Raping women (Mike Tyson)

    etc etc etc

Bored fighters seem to get in a lot of trouble between fights - Cus D'Amato kept Tyson fighting every 2 weeks when he was starting out, just to keep him out of trouble!!

    No way man,
Most pros would do decent workouts 3-4 times a week when not fighting instead of everyday of intense comign up to a fight.
plus they dont have to watch their weight.
It would be foolish to stop training all together between fights or keeping up the same level of intensity.

I would have to think some fighters dont train at all between bouts, why else would they balloon up in weight between bouts. Hatton is a great example, I have read that between bouts he walks around at 180lbs. He cant be doing to much training if he is gaining that much weight between bouts.

yeah, remember though, he may 140 on the day of the weigh in, but he's not fighting at that (he'll dry up something like almost 10 pounds) and he'll loose try to loose actual weight in camp (not just water like a weigh in) so its more a case of not forcing his weight down (though you're right... he should put as much as he does on... fat bastard :P)

That is true, but if he was training consistently all year he would not put on as much weight. He would still put on some weight because of the different intesity, I just dont think he would pack on that much if he trained all year. I have often heard that Hopkins trained year round and never varied to far from his fighting weight.

I reckon Amir Khan will spend most of his time shaving his feet.

Thats because Bernard got into the habbit on the inside and he's sensible... he doesn't dry up an awful lot for a fight... probably why he's still one of the pest P4P fights in the world at 41 and still in such good shape... drying up like most other fighters do takes years off your life
