Cobra is ready to strike

BOXING: MAN-of-steel Rob Newbiggin has signed a new management deal that could see him fighting in some of the world's top boxing destinations.

The 40-year-old from Windsor Road, Southport, has trained with the likes of Zab Judah, Floyd Mayweather Junior and Ricky Hatton.

Now he has set his sights on becoming the world's top international Junior Middleweight.

Rob, who is nicknamed 'The Cobra', said: "In May, I went to Tampa and I was all matched up, but there was no contest. I weighed in at 10 stone, but Oscar Gonzales didn't turn up so the fight was classed as a 'no-show'.

"I came back home and I was a bit reluctant with my promotion team. Now I have a new one in Denmark called Risum Boxing.

"The boxing for me this year has twisted and turned through so many boxing camps and promoters worldwide.

"But Risum Boxing, who are based in Denmark, promote very big names all over the globe in places like Africa, Europe and the States.

"I am deep into my training now and I am ready to up my intensity.

"My new management team are preparing to match me up on either a venue in Europe or the States.

"They will probably be in October and November. My first fight will more than likely be in either Italy or Germany.

"I am happy about that though because world boxing has come to Europe in a big way and they boast a good number of world champions now. But it's the States where I will be targeting for early in the New Year or even late November in Las Vegas and New York."

Rob, who trains at the Hook and Pad gym in Warrington, added: "It might sound amateurish, but I have converted my outbuilding into a boxing fitness room. It's modelled on Ricky Hatton's Phoenix Gym in Manchester.

"Every day I run 10 miles along the Coastal Road. I do my weight training and further cardio work on alternate days at the Scarisbrick Hotel's fitness club, who are also sponsoring me. When I am there we have at least 20 people watching my work-outs while I am with a personal trainer on the pads."

this guy comes into our gym quite regually and everything said there is bullshit. he gets beaten up alot by normal fighters and he has the worst guard ever. if he went in the ring with ricky hatton or zab or whatever bullshit he says he would get ko'd in the 1st punch lol he is 40 so could you even see him winning a pro fight? check out his record
