    Default Southpaw domination?

Has anyone else noticed that 160-175 the three #1 ranked fighters are southpaws? (Winky, Calzaghe and Tarver)
Do you think there is any science in that or is it just coincidence? Bear in mind that 1 in 9 of us are left handed, yet approximately a third of our #1 ranked fighters are left handed. Weird no?

If it was usually the case that Southpaws took up a disproportionate amount of no1 spots on the rankings then you may have something. I don't think so though. Southpaws tend to make for tough fights for most orthodox fighters but most of the time southpaw no1s are as rare as southpaws. We've just had a few good ones recently.

They do.. look lately... Byrd, Judah, Manny Pac, Tarver, Winky, Calzaghe have all been at the top of their division before or in this year(Except Winky who has been the 154 champ for awhile) considering like 1/10th of the population is left handed.

Winky fights southpaw, but he's right handed. Not sure about the others, but many fighters are like that.

Have you actually looked into that??

winky wright is not left handed, he is Right handed only fights as a southpaw....

Not sure about tarver and Calaghe ...but alot of southpaws you see today are right handed...

Chad Dawson is also right handed. There are others i just cant think of names.

2, Chris Byrd held the WBO and IBF titles (not at the same time though)

1st time a southpaw got a shot at the heavyweight title was in 1966, Ali-Mildenburger
