Default Amirs got a FA column

Olympic silver medal winner and football fan Amir Khan has joined TheFA.com for the duration of the World Cup.

A keen Bolton supporter, Amir took time out from training to give us his thoughts on England's hopes, The Trotters and his World Cup memories...

    Hi everyone!

I have always liked to watch football since my uncle took me to Burnden Park when I was about eight years old.

I remember all the kids used to run up and down the steps of the Manchester Road Family Stand - they were the cheapest tickets. It was a great experience as Bolton were a good side then in the Third Division.

I am not bad at football, but my boxing is better. I play five-a-side with my mates about once a week. I am a goal hanger who just stands and shoots - my mates always have a go at me but I threaten them, only for a joke, and they let me do what I want!

I never dreamed of playing professional football, only boxing, as that is what I really wanted to do.

I don’t have a season ticket but I watch Bolton as much as I can. The board are great with me and Sam is the man, he is a great motivator.

The European games this season were great. I went to a couple of the away games and went in the stands. The Bolton fans are fantastic, they look after me and let me enjoy the games.

I think if Bolton had not had the blip after Christmas then they would have been in Europe and may have challenged for the Champions League spot.

I think England will do well at the World Cup and with a bit of luck they could make the final. I saw the game with Jamaica and they looked good. They have so many options.

Brazil is the team to watch out for and there are many players I am looking forward to seeing - Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Henry, Totti and Ballack to name a few.

I would love to be out in Germany, cheering on the team, but I am in training at the moment to fight on 8 July. Instead I will be chilling and watching the games with my mates. We have not decided where we will watch the games though.

The first World Cup I remember watching is France '98. I remember watching the penalties against Argentina. I was gutted. I remember Sol Campbell scored but it was disallowed. I had tears in my eyes.

Come on England - you can do it!

He probably needs to stick to boxing, as he is not going to have much of a career as a writer, is he? I wonder how much he got paid for that as it looked like it was written by a ten year old.

Still, at least he actually is a football fan, unlike many of the world cup bandwagon jumpers on..............

(like me, as I am not a football fan but do follow the world cup, I must admit)
