Default Toni Margarito Q and A session

    http://forums.maxboxing.com/index.php?showtopic=39937

    mr margarito

if kermit killer citron won the ibf title would you consider having a rematch with him as the ibf is generally considered one of the three most important titles? or are you content to wait and see if one of the big name fighters like mosely mayweather or hatton would decide to give you a fight?

Tony's Reply: Sure I would love to fight Kermit again. It's funny I was in Vegas for the fight and I heard that he would fight for the title soon. I have never been known not to fight someone so if he had something to offer me then great I would definitely fight him for his belt. But if he doesn't have it then I really would not be interested in fighting someone I beat badly the first time. He can make all the excuses he wants but he knows I beat him bad.

Thank you Antonio for allowing us time from your busy schedule.

I would like to know if there are any current boxers that you admire? Also, who is your all time favorite boxer?

Tony's Reply:Well when he fought Chavez Sr was the one fighter I remember enjoying to watch fight. Of the active fighters I really like watching Roy Jones Jr fight.

Why should people go watch a Margarito fight? And why should Mosley, Hatton, Cotto, and Mayweather fight you?

Great to have you here at the Maxchats Antonio.

Tony's Reply: I will tell you why people should watch me fight. I leave everything I have in the ring for the people. For my fans. I am a true warrior. As for the best and why they should fight me I can say that I feel that I am the true champion of the welterweight division and they should want to fight the best here. Like Mayweather he should want to fight me to prove he is the best at 147 period.

Hey campion! Margarito, my questions are: Do you do any strength training like lifting weights? Is it hard to stay motivated and train hard for a big fight not knowing if it will happen? I hurd u fought Erik Morales when u were amateurs, what was the result of that fight other than producing 2 Tijuana champions, who won? Last: if you could get any of these guys in the ring who would you want to fight: Winky, DeLaHoya, Mayweather or Mosley?

Tony's Reply: Good question it is something I just got into. I just started with a bodybuilder friend of mine during non fight training. Once training starts I stay off them and train regular. With this new strength all it will do is make me knock out Mayweather sooner!!!

yeah I did fight Erik. We went to the same gym, had the same people around us. When we fought I was 10 and he was 12 and yes he did beat me. But le him get into the ring with me now!!!!

    Antonio,
has Arum approached Judah about a possible match with you if Floyd turns you down? Have you (through Arum) EVER made an offer to Zab? If not, why? You'd destroy him and the world would KNOW FOR DAMN SURE that Floyd is ducking you! Also, stay at 147, it's where all the action is!

Tony's Reply: you know I heard about that and to be honest really I have no interest in him. He made me wait for a chance at his belts and then when asked if he would fight me he froze up. It is his turn to wait now after making me wait for something that never happened

    Antonio,

I am a Mayweather fan but the fact that he has refused to fight even when you are his only viable option at 147 is annoying me too. Is there any truth to the rumors that Arum is going to put you on a Showtime card Nov. 4th opposite of Floyd's PPV?

Tony's Reply: Yes there is truth that I may fight on Showtime in Nov but ask this. If I don't fight Floyd who is he going to fight on PPV? We had a conference call today and things look good as we heard a list of fighters mentioned. The Clottey Martinez winner, Collazo, Vivian Harris, even Mosley if the money were right were all mentioned so hopefully something happens soon

Antonio How do u start getting ranked in the WBC and IBF and the other belts? I think maybe u should just forget about Mayweather because he is just going to keep running. You should fight fighters to be ranked higher in the other belts and force one of the FAKE champions to fight you. Is that something you are considering? Maybe fight paul Williams for his #3 spot in the wbc. Once Gatti beats Baldomir Gatti will have no choice but to fight you which will only show MORE people how floyd ran from you as well as Mosley, and other.s

Tony's Reply:Mayweather is not on my radar anymore. Unless he calls and says he wants the fight I wont bother talking about it anymore. To be honest I just want to fight period. I want the chance to show the world that I am a good champion one deserving of being considered the best.

Fantastic read, now I want Tony to fight Collazo,Quintana,Williams,Clottey, knock them al out and then fight a Mosley or someone else who has the balls to step into the ring with him.

    Funny!! I was just gonna reply that Tony has no business fighting;

Williams, Clottey then I go to B oxRec and check out who hes scheduled to fight....

    http://boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=11677

This is what the WBO champ has to resort to when other champs don't have the balls to fight him.....He has to scrap out fights like this one.....

If Tony beats Williams people will say the same thing they said when he beat Cintron, If Tony beats Clottey people will say well he lost to Baldomir already he aint shet!!!....So no matter who Tony beats people will make excuses....

And untill PBF & Hatton can grow some balls and decide to fight him people will put him in back burner.

Even if he were to beat Baldomir, people would say well Baldomir ain't shet!! He beat Zab on bad night and bla. bla bla. bla......And he beat a past his best Gatti who should have bla. bla. bla. bla.

Come on people open your eyes, I've never claimed Tony to be the best ever or the best out there. All I've asked for is to give him a shot at the titles cuz he deserves it.

I totally agree with you bro but the only way to shut everyone up is to beat these guys ad they are the only ones willing to fight him!! Baldozar wouldn't fight Tony,he would get crushed!! The only point I disagree with you on is I believe Toni to be the best@147.As for the Rivera fight,I don't believe it will take place,I'd be MASSIVELY disappointed if it did. Anyone but a guy like that!

(I do think Tonys the best @ 147) I just trying to get my point across

OK...I agree that MIGHT be the way, which is to fight those guys. But those KIND of guys keep coming, once Williams has walked on theres these guys that by then some idiots on this forum will see 1 good fight of theres and create threads like the ones of Williams that where done after his victory over Matthyse.

Yeah bro,I so agree,1 man gets 1 win and he is worthy of fighting Tony,a man with 6 defences of his title!! I just want Tony to knock out everyone in the division(apart from my other fave Cotto, they can share the belts,2 each!) and then no one can say Tony has not fought anyone evem though these same peeps were saying Cintron is a killer etc etc and would beat Tony. Cintron would KTFO most of Floyd's last opponents, and is about to become IBF champ, that's what makes this funny!

Margarito is NOT the best at 147. He has the porential to be the best if he can shine against some of the other marquee names out there . Yes, he seems to have difficulty making the big fights. I think Collazo would be an excellent starter on the way to broadening his name. It would be a real test for Margarito. If Margarito is successful then it will extend his appeal. If is the key word here I might add.

For some reason Margarito has only been tuned in to wanting to fight Floyd. This is a flaw because PBF doesnt even see Tony on the radar....PBF has bigger names on his shopping list...

Well, and I cant quite believe it myself, but Baldomir is actually the man that beat the man and he is a naturally big welterweight....he is slow, but as strong as granite....

Other belts out there are rightfully his as he argues....Zab was the man and he did the number....

I dont think Baldomir is terribly skilled, but he is the man of now...

Otherwise we have other belt holders and another guy who has possibly been overlooked, in Collazo...

There are a number of other danger guys Margarito could try and chase....It doesnt all begin and end with Floyd, especially when many think of him as a dark horse anyway...

Baldomir and Collazo are the ones to test Margarito IMO, and if he's good enough, he can then move on to greater exposure...

tony said hes put the PBF fight aside....thing is baldi does not seem to want tony so i guess tony should go after collazo plus i think PBF will probably get to baldi first, then what?.....

Totally agree,CC. Tony has stated that he is no longer interested in Floyd, and he wants to beat some of the other names out there which is a very very good thing but I want Baldo to lose because he is never ever going to fight Tony.I want tony to beat up Collazo,Quintana,Clottey and then call out names again.Possibly try to get Mosley.

Will click you back later when able

Agreed. Margarito needs to let go of the PBF thing for a bit and just keep busy and beat down whoever is put in front of him....I think Collazo could be very, very tricky...

Much more skillful than I thought he would be...

I think a Tony Collazo fight would be awesome but I don't think Collazo is capable of remaining elusive for the whole fight,Margarito will catch him and if Collazo goes toe to toe,I'd expect Margarito to give him a beat down. I was so so surprised to see Hatton hurt,Collazo throws good fast combox but they seem more pitter patter than thundering punches.

I dont think Collazo has a shot at knocking Margarito out, but if he can box smart and use the speed and trickiness he posseses then he can keep it interesting....at least for a while, but who knows....Collazo along with big old Baldy may turn out to be more than we ever gave them credit for. Just as Margarito may be....

Surprises lurk around every corner at welterweight at the moment....would be surprised if another didnt come along at some point this year!!
