It's a shame this fight isn't on tv
Who do you think wins and why?
I've only seen Mosquera twice, Nanthachai and Estrella.
He was very good in the Nanthachai fight. Popping in and out, countering Nanthachai and using a good jab. Though he had a very bad habit of occasionally bullrushing in with lunging hooks leaving himself VERY open. He got knocked down in the middle rounds after he knocked down Nanthachai in the same round by doing this. Very ugly. But for the most part he was a pretty good boxer-puncher that fight, fighting the way you would expect a mexican fighter to (except he is Colombian or Panamanian or something, can't remember).
As impressive as he was in the Nanthachai fight, he looked TERRIBLE in the Estrella fight. Charging forward trying to overpower Estrella, no boxing and his output numbers weren't at all impressive. He looked beatable, charging straight ahead with lunging hooks geting hit with everything and the kitchen sink. Mosquera is so easy to time coming inside when he isn't working behind a jab, it's almost not fair. That's not an exageration either.
So, needless to say Mosquera isn't exactly overwhelming. Meanwhile there is Valero. Competition is soft and he has had NO rounds under his belt but...the way he gets guys out of there is impressive. I mean, looking at him, you see a guy who looks off balance constantly, throwing wide shots, and throwing them often. He reminds me a little of a mix between Kassim Ouma and Antonio Margarito to be honest (wierd I know but those are the two fighters who come to mind everytime I see him.) He looks a little sloppy but he still has good timing, cuts the ring off nicely a good jab and he can throw his punches very straight when his opponent is on the ropes. If he gets you on the ropes you're in trouble. That's about all I've got from his actual fights so far.
But then there is that Erik Morales footage. THE GUY WAS OUTBOXING MORALES. I'm not going to read to deep into that since I have no idea when that was and what Morales' shape was but anyone who has seen the footage can agree, he looked damn impressive against an elite fighter. The thing is we haven't seen that type of boxing in his actual fights. Maybe because he didn't need it to win but either way, we haven't seen it and I think we are going to need to see a mixture of it in the Mosquera fight.
Now, as for how the two stack against each other. I would REALLY be surprised if Mosquera pulled this one out. I mean, he would have to be perfect, and that means not getting hit with the bombs he always does against Valero because Valero has power to get him out of there. I think this fight was a tailor made fight for Valero but I also think the kid is the next big thing if only he didn't have that ugly (and scary) blackspot on his MRI hanging over his head. I really do. You can hold me to that one.
So...your thoughts?
