    Default Jones-Tarver 1

last night i had a hankering for a fight i havnt seen in a while and i found myself watching roy jones jr- antonio tarver 1 again, and i got half way through and thought u know i dont know why the fight was controversial because i knew roy had inched it by a couple of rounds, and i thought right i'll dedicate myself to scoring the fight myself really find out what went on and i felt it was tricky with the rounds in which tarver would flurry at jones and take my attention off the fact roy had been controlling basically the whole round whether tarver had landed or not, so i decided i would score it by timing how long each fighter is in control in each round, which punches were impressive and how they conncted or how often in a flurry and i felt this was a fair aproach and this is what i got.

Bear in mind that there were no knockdowns or illegal blows in which anyone was penalised or any points deducted.thus all rounds were scored 10-9 in favour of whichever fighter won the round.

    Round 1. tarver 10-9

    Round 2. Tarver 10-9

    Round 3. jones 10-9

    Round 4. jones 10-9

    Round 5. jones 10-9

    Round 6. jones 10-9

Round 7. Tarver 10-9 ( a round in which i believe lederman, and i think also one of the judges gave to roy, pushing him yet further ahead)

    Round 8. Tarver 10-9

    Round 9. jones 10-9

    Round 10. tarver 10-9

    Round 11. jones 10-9

    Round 12. jones 10-9

    roy jones jr :115
    Antonio Tarver:113
    (body head bangers scorecard :P)

and yet it seemed i gave the 7th to tarver, which i felt i did fairly and roy stil won by a two round margine? but tarver couldnt beleive he lost and the public seemed to think tarver had won also? why? i mean props to tarver at the end of the day he was the better man due to a spectacular ko round 2 of jones in the second fight, and a whitewash in the third. BUT had this strange occurance that roy had apparently lost never been said? i dont feel roy would have had anything to prove to tarver and so would never have rematched him and lost!
And whats more is that because of the fact many people believe that roy didn't deserve the win, they were so busy saying that, that alot of them failed to give props to what a performace it was by roy, and gave too much to tarver who could have whitewashed it from the start had he notlet slip in the third!

has anyone else scored this bout? hohw do you have it or what are your opinions on this.
    thanks.

yo bro i was AT this fight at the mandalay bay i had really pimp seats up front. sat behind chris byrd, next to Laila Ali, and in front of Tommy Hearns thats how good my seat was. i did see how the ignorant person might think Tarver won based on his last minute flurries and havig roy on the ropes here and there, but anyone who knows how to judge a fight knows Roy won that fight especially based on his clean effective landed punches to Tarvers wild landing flurries. Sitting that close I saw how clean and hard Roy was going to the body. Alot of times the camera does not grasp that.

so yeah COOL CLICK bro! to be honest with u i never seen this fight on tape before only in person. do u know where i can DL it or see it? can u give me the link?

Hey it all goes back to What Nazeem told Bernard in between rounds vs Tarver "HE BULLSHITTED THE PUBLIC BUT NOT US" Tarver is all mouth and tries no persuade more than fight...I knew he didnt win and Roy sealed the deal while jumping on him during the Championship rounds while Tarver did nothing...

It wasnt close enough to garner a rematch....Since Roy didnt blow him out of the water in Typical Roy fashion it just appeared that it was closer than what it was..

Lets say if Tarver was in there with Clinton Woods instead of Jones and the fight went exactly the same...There would be no rematch cause it would have been a decisive victory for Woods with no reason for a rematch.. Again since it was Roy and he didnt bounce his ass out of there Roy Style, all of a sudden Roy didnt win....

    Agreed & amen!!
You!! and naz!! are abosolutely right! :P lol never thought i'd say that naz was right!
but yeh its clear thats what happened and its a shame that the casual boxing fans followed tarver like sheep cos it took all the focus away from the tremendous heart roy showed in that fight, and you could see how the wieght loss had affected him in the long run and a valiant win for roy is what i saw baby!!

Yeah I had Jones winning by about the same margin I think, those body shots of Jones' were mean. No doubt in my mind Jones won that 1st fight!!!

Roy won the fight 115-113 IMO but the fight was there for tarver to take. I too had it even after 10 but then tarver didn't do anything in 11 and 12 as if he had it won already. That fight did deserve a rematch cause nobody ever came that close to beating roy. I never seen roys face look like that. There were times when i thought he would knock roy out.

When you don't concentrate on close matches like that one,

It sort of looked like Tarver winning.

But to the keen eye it was a RJJ win.
