Default Pick Up the Phone ROY!!!!!!!!

In an article by SkySports.com, Promoter Frank Warren now believes Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr could finally happen.

With Jones back in the win column after defeating Prince Badi Ajamu last month, Warren is bringing Calzaghe's name into the picture.

SkySports quotes Warren saying: "I've said all along that following defeats against Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver,
Jones should retire. But if he does want to carry on fighting, then a meeting with Calzaghe makes sense and I'd be very interested in promoting it.

Warren added "If he is serious, all Jones has to do is pick up the phone and get in contact, and then we can talk."

I'd love to see Roy have another tune up fight against a better opponent first. But if this fight happens soon, I will stand by my statement that Roy can STILL beat Calzaghe. Roy has essentially been called out, so I hope he responds.

He always gets called out but when he has a fighter who is a dnager he starts asking for ridiculous amounts of money.

Roy Jones jr is in no way shape or form back in any picture. The fact he is ranked 10th after a fight with a handpicked soft hitting opponent means nothing. Did Roy look good yes. Was Ajamu a bum no but not a world class fighter either......Right now Jones is just grasping at moments in the spotlight and getting attention due to his past accomplishments. He is not in a position to garner such a huge fight. It would only be a disaster waiting to happen. Anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish

Yup, if Roy takes it it will clearly show that he is deluding himself, and still thinks he can mix it with the biggest fighters in the world. Granted he wants a swansong, but there are easier champions to beat for him if he wants that last dance in the spotlight.

I dunno, there aren't any easier high profile fights for Roy IMO. Calzaghe is made to order for him IMO. But Roy would have to let his freakin hands go like he did against Ajamu, a little more so even IMO.

    Why?

What does Calzaghe possibly have that is gonna stop Roy? Calzaghe is open for every punch in the book unless you loop them like Lacy did and Lacy didn't once use his jab uppercut or body shots.

Calzaghe is good, but stylistically its a bad matchup for Joe. he doesn't do good against fighters that move and counter punchers with speed.

Calzghe has all of the stamina and power of Johnson and is a better boxer so I say he will knock Roy out but if Roy has finally gotten all his cob webs out then it should be very close.

I would really like to see Roy make Oscar eat his words in a middleweight fight--hard to make the weight for Roy but more money and better chance of his winning.

Again depends on which Roy shows up... Will Roy throw and put together Combo's and press or will Roy be on his horse sticking out his tongue and dance away all nite afraid to get hit...

Roy has the faster hands and should land that right at will..Calzaghe is not a punch knock out artist Roy might catch one but its not gonna put him on his ass....

Hope we get to see it

He might not have one of his entirely dominant performances as he did against Lacy, but Calzaghe's been in there with movers and dancers before, and eventually, he will get them against the ropes, and that is when he'll smother them with punches. Even if this isn't the case, i think his boxing is good enough, and we know in the fihghts where his hands have gone that he can do enough in a patient style to win fights. His guard's good, his chin's superb, personally I don't think many fighters can outwork joe in punches thrown, it will either take a guy with superb movement or a massive puncher to beat him, and at this point in his career, RJJ is neither.

Good points bro, people gotta stop living in the past . Jones ain't the P4P king he once was, he's as good as shot. If you don't believe that you better wake up, watch the G. Johnson fight! Jones would get his a** handed to him at this point in his career. Jones looked good against a snail like Ajamu but once he steps in there again with a top notch opponent he's gonna get starched again, Jones should get out before he gets really hurt.!

I hate to split hairs with you Galaxy ,but to say" he will really get hurt" is a little exterme Roy has been fighting for 15 years or so and probably has less wear and tear on him than most, with the exception of the 2 KO but its notlike he is Arturo Gatii or Nigel Benn he was probably less hit than anyone in the past 20 years...His eggs are far from scrambled, Roys problems were more mental than anything..

He has 1 or 2 big fights left in him
