Default So i'm starting to take up boxing

with a friend and my bro...we just started last week, but you gotta start somewhere. Anyway, I am 135 lbs, 5'10'', 27 1/2" reach, and currently trying to bulk up.

I was sparring a friend today, he weighs 190, things were alright I was doing alright keeping him away with my jab, took a swing, he saw the opening, hit me on the cheek, and I had no control, I wasn't dizzy, I just got knocked to the ground.. I understand that the weight difference plays a big difference between us, but I was wondering, is there anything I could do to prevent this besides protecting myself more? I'm currently working on balance, but I don't think that my balance could have done much against that.

Well then, train at least 2 or 3 times a week, let your trainer show you how you should move your feet, how to defend yourself en how to avoid punches, also learn how to throw punches, once you get that down in a ok manner, you can start thinking about sparring, and not sooner... It's better for your health

No trainer who is right in his mind let's you spar after just a few lessons. And that is for a simple reason, like i said before, all in protection of your health (as in: your head/brains). If you want to do anything with your friends outside of the boxingschool, for now, practice all that you train at the gym, and things come for themselfs.

    Best of luck!

at best after a month or more you might start to go to the body to learn first...after about 2 months is when the sparing should begin...you must build a strong base before you spar.....this will help tremendously....
It feels good to be back home.
