Junior Witter has been given an incentive to beat DeMarcus Corley and win the World Boxing Council light-welterweight title next month - a showdown with his domestic rival Ricky Hatton.

Witter has been chasing Hatton for years and the fight has finally become a reality with Hatton's decision to revert to the 140lb division for an IBF title challenge to Juan Urango in December.

"There are a number of fights to whet your appetite at 140lb," Hatton's promoter, Dennis Hobson, said, "and I certainly would not discount a domestic fight with Junior Witter if he wins in style."

Hatton has made the decision to relinquish the last of his world title belts and move back down to the lighter weight following his WBA welterweight title win over Luis Collazo in May. Had he stayed at 147lb he would have been forced into an unappetising clash with Oktay Urkal but believes he can now benefit from any number of more attractive options.

First Hatton has to get past unbeaten Colombian Juan Urango in a fight which ought to be confirmed next week for 9 December in Atlanta. "Ricky is still the main man at light-welterweight whether he has got a title or not," Hobson said. "If he beats Urango and gets his title back there is any number of mouth-watering fights to be made."

Aww man so you're telling me that Ricky Hatton's journey to conquer America ends with a domestic showdown against Junior Witter.

He might just as well stayed in Manchester

Owe you CC in 24 for the news Wack but I don't think the fight will happen. What would Hatton gain? How would it entice the American audience? It would be a huge step back and anway,I think Corley will beat Witter.

all the same it's one i'd still like to see

With Cotto moving up, the ONLY exciting or "mouthwatering" fight to be made for Hatton at 140 is against Castillo.

Personally i would rather Hatton keeps fighting in American winning over some more fans! He would batter Witter imo.

One of two things will happen

Witter is gonna become so motivated he destroys Corley

    or

Witter is gonna become so motivated to look impressive he'll make stupid mistakes and win a close one or get beaten

This fight would be personal indulgence for Ricky, payback to his loyal, longterm fans who have always wanted this fight badly, and it would be a HUGE PPV and ticket success in the UK even with a 2am start in UK plus I'm quite sure people would watch on HBO for free if Witter won. If Witter loses I think he will retire.
Hatton and his team have always spoke about doing this fight in his beloved Manchester City FC Stadium which holds 40,000, not one ticket would go unsold, starting at appoximately $80 and going all the way up to approx $1200 there's too much money to go unmade.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!

I understand what you are saying and he may very well make a bomb but for the long term,it will affect his American ambitions and as much as he would make there,he would make more if he increased his US profile and was able to secure fights with PBF/COTTO/CASTILLO/CORRALES.

OK correct me if I'm wrong. did Hatton say he will retire after 2 more fights?

I think I heard that before. so the Cotto ,PBF or what ever big name fight will never be a go.
    OR i'm wrong?
