    Default Barrett Valuev

    Monte's crew says:

Valuev likes to hold, throw elbows and stiff-arm his opponents,” Bashir continued. “I won’t tolerate infractions. No one has ever really challenged Valuev. We want to make him fight.”

NOW I KNOW THAT VALUEV WILL WIN. I WILL NEVER POST AGAIN IF HE DOESNT. I WAS RIGHT ABOUT MASKAEV SO I STILL POST. NOW; the reasoning above is so dumb that its baffling. Its simply insane!!!
    a) The people who Valuev had the most trouble with were Ruiz and Donald: they picket points of him.
    b) The people who made Valuev fight (Levin, Rhino, Beck) All were crushed. The thing is; unless you manage some very clean and crisp perfect power shot you will only accomplish burning out. Even decent shots cannot substantially affect a top conditioned 350 pound athlete with fight experience. Barrett is not that much better than poor Etienne or Beck, so there is no reason to think that "fighting and challenging" Valuev is to take away your only advantage; mobility (so well used by Donald).
    c) Valuev is laid back guy like many big guys; but if you threaten him, adrenaline will flow and when a big decent fighter fights a smaller decent fighter the bigger will win.

In any case there is no other strategy than moving alot and scoring point, and even that wont work because of the long jab and new found uppercut, but "taking it to" Valuev is suicide. Valuev is not WK.

Levin, Beck, and Ettiene had no chins whatsoever

Barrett has a HUGE shot to beat him he has a good chin he has below average power, but when he's busy he does very well.

It's bullshit he got a title shot a YEAR after fighting Rahman though

And I'll keep saying Valuev's chin is not all that...he's been hurt before but no one followed up. Otis Tisdale, Tomas Bidenko....those guys caught him pretty good and they aren't known for their power

I'll be rooting for Valuev on this one, I just don't think that a Monte Barrett victory would do anything for the HW division. He's lost to other fighters who are around, and having him as one of the four champions would just weaken the image of the division. At least Valuev, and his immense proportion brings some interest and promotes discussions about the Heavyweights, which Barrett just will not do.
I hope Valuev goes on to dominate the division, but while I can't see it....he may be a late bloomer.

    a) I think that it wasnt only the chin that was the trouble for Etienne Beck and Levin, it was also that their "taking it to Val" didnt pay off and they got overpowered. This is what has happened so far for those who try fighting.
    b) Barrett has not much more power than Etienne or Bidenko, and so fighting as opposed to boxing will not pay off, Val wont go down and barrett will get tired and crumble. There is no reason to think that he is so much better than the others that he will accomplish what they couldnt.
    c) Still its cool that we disagree; it shows us that -contrary to what I think- its perhaps not a clear Val W.
    d) Val is better now than before.
    e) The best evidence of good chin is to not have been counted out; 44 fights and no loss; really despite looking strartled -perhaps surprised- a couple of times in his carreer the evidence is that he is very solid. Of course he still needs to fight Lamon or Peter to see if he is really amazingly solid. Actually; his record is not compatible with having a weak chin.
    f) Chin is influenced by stamina; and Valuev has so far shown excellent stamina and excellent pacing.

OK LYLE I WILL MAKE FUN OF YOU IF VALUEV MAKES A BECK OR ETIENNE OUT OF MONTE!!!

I saw the Beck fight thank you very much. He smashed Beck on the back of the head so many times. And Beck has a glass chin to begin with but Valuev had to do it with rabbit punches

I don't like this personally. Barrett has been off for a year, the last time I saw him against Rahman he didn't look like the force he did against Mesi and Guinn and Beck. I don't think Barrett is at his best anymore. But I don't think Valuev is that good either.

Well laugh at me all you want but Monte took Joe Mesi's best shots and Wlad had to put him down 5 times to beat him.

I just think Monte is tough and I see a Larry Donald like fight going on....where Valuev gets the decision and he also gets booed badly!

Valuev is a rabbit puncher...him and Sam Peter should fight they are both the dirtiest I have seen since GOLOTA

If Barrett takes it to Valuev then he deserves to lose, he should be watching the Donald fight and make Valuev plod forward and just outbox him like Donald. Thing is Donald's slicker than Barrett.

Even though I don't think I can force myself to root for Barrett I can't really disagree with superheavyrhun's post, having Barrett become champion wouldn't do anything good for boxing. Can you imagine how many people would be lining up to get a shot at the belt if Barrett won? At least Valuev's got the almost sideshow appeal, no offense to him but that's what its gonna be to casual fans. But if Valuev keeps on fighting mediocre opposition in his defenses then what good does that do.

yeah ....getting the title shot AGAIN after taking a beating less than a year ago is bullsh*t......but the HW division is still shooting itself in the a** by not getting the champs to unify....

Having Barrett as Champ would save Rocky Marciano's legacy from the FRAUD that is Nicolay Valuev

Sorry, but if Valuev gets criticism for never having beaten anyone of great note....how the hell can you suggest that Barrett has beaten anyone better. They've both beaten Beck....but other than that there aren't any big names on Barrett's record either that he has beaten. If Barrett beats Valuev, it will prove that Valuev is not very good....but if Barrett wins the title then it just makes it an even more minority title. He's 31-4 for god's sake...and lost against Hasim Rahman. Not exactly a great pedigree there is it?

Valuev gets criticism for never having FOUGHT anyone good.

Barrett's competition DWARFS Valuev's: Wlad, Rahman, Mesi.....I mean the guy has only had 35 fights and he has fought better competition than Valuev

44 fights, Valuev has fought 2....2 legitimate fighters

That was the argument that Demarcus Corley used when he came over to Britain to fight Junior Witter. He'd been in the ring with a number of top ranked fighters. But he'd lost. As did Barrett, he lost to each one of them, and at the end of the day, a defeat shows that he is not at the same level as those fighters....and it will be proved come Saturday evening, that he is not at the same level as Nikolai Valuev. (my humble pie is in the fridge, just in case Barrett spoils the big feller's show)

I asked myself the same thing when Dr. Steelhammer got fight with Brewster for a vacant belt and Brewster had been off for a year and Steelhammer had lost to Sanders. I thought this was just a set up for both brothers to hold the world championship. I was actually surprised that Brewster won, but i wanted it to happen. Steelhammer has more then proven himself in the aftermath..but I'm a little sour graped that he only Heavyweight he's beaten for a title has been Byrd Which doesn't say much given his advantages over him
