Default Boxer Curtis Woodhouse given community service

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/6152690.stm

Boxer Curtis Woodhouse has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service for injuring a police officer.
Woodhouse, a former Grimsby Town footballer who recently turned to boxing, was also told at Bridlington Magistrates Court to pay the man £100.

At an earlier hearing he was convicted of assaulting the officer after he was called to a Bridlington pub where he had become drunk and abusive.

The magistrate said he thought it was unlikely such an incident would recur.

The court heard the officer's shoulder was injured so badly he was unable to work for several weeks.

    £1m move

Driffield-born Woodhouse, 26, made his debut for Sheffield United aged 17 in 1997, and went on to make over 100 appearances for the team, eventually becoming captain.

He moved to Birmingham in a £1m deal in 2001 and later made 14 appearances for promotion-chasing Grimsby in League Two.

He rejected a new contract and turned to boxing in April, 2006.

He is trained and managed by Dean Powell, who is connected to Frank Warren's Sports Network group.

He won his debut pro fight in September with an easy win over Dean Marcoantonio at London's Grosvenor House.
