Default Mayweather Jr. AGREES TO WEAR REYES

I read in a local newspaper article that the pretty boy has agreed to De La Hoya's request to wear Reyes gloves for their scheduled Jr. Middleweight title fight on May 5th, IMO it's not that smart of a move by Mayweather, Oscar is hands down the bigger stronger fighter of the two, and this will just make his edge in power way bigger, also Mayweather is always complaining about his brittle right hand so don't know should be a good one

Mayweather says he's going to do everything DLH's way so DLH has no excuses.

Fighters should be able to wear their gloves of choice. This seems to be a recent thing where fighters try to dictate what brand gloves an opponent can wear. I think its BS, and more a psycological thing than substance.

I'm aware that Reyes is classified as a punchers glove. I believe Gatti stayed with Reyes even with his brittle hands. I doubt it will be a determining factor in the fight.

Im more interested in what size ring is being used for the fight.

Gatti hasn't fought using Reyes gloves for a good while, he switched to Everlast gloves for his last couple of fights and also Gatti doesn't bitch and moan about the pain in his hand when it's BROKEN, he still throws it with plenty of bad intentions and still manages to get the KO with it, Mayweather becomes a one handed fighter and then cries that he only didn't get the KO cause he sprained it or something pussy-like, IMO De La Hoya is going to spark the pretty boy, and he's going to make it look ugly

Oscar De La Hoya has seen it all, he's dealt with IMO the craftiest fighter to ever lace em up, being Pernell Whitaker, and he dealt with him well, even though IMO he didn't really win the fight it was close, he's naturally bigger, stronger, probably just as technically sound, better movement off the ropes, Mayweather tends to try to duck or lean out the way like he did against Baldomir and Corely, speed Mayweather has an edge, but it's not a huge one either DLH is still plenty fast at this stage of his career, DLH still has the acuracy with the left and he's been developing the straight right quite nicely since going with Mayweather senior, he has the better stronger jab, and Mayweather's lack of power at 154 combined with Oscar's great chin leaves Mayweather with a very slim chance at earning a knockout, it's not out of the question that Mayweather could possibly win, after all he's one of the best p4p in the world, but he hasn't really had a fight this big and this tough in such a long time that IMO his chances aren't all that great

Personally, and don't flame me for this. I think Judah had all the things to beat Mayweather, just not the mentality.

But I think Floyd is going to fight a different fight.

One major factor I think will be in this fight is how Oscar holds his hands. He is open for straights and open for body shots.

I think Oscar is more open for punches now then he used to be.

Even though he looked wonderful against Mayorga.

I can't take away that whenever Mayorga threw an uppercut from left field it tagged Oscar and tagged him hard, or that the body shots landed so effectively.

It didn't matter in the end, but I think it will be a factor in this fight. Since the things Oscar is open for are the things that Mayweather can do effectively.

I didn't see a jab in the Mayorga fight and when Oscar does jab what is he open for? Mayweather's money punch the left hook or a counter jab because Oscar gives up his height when he does it.

Oscar hasnt thrown a single straight body shot in a few years, all his body shots have been hooks or in shoeshine combinations and I don't think that would work on Mayweather.

I also remember that Oscar needs to plant in order to do damage and his feet have to be set. If they aren't he can get tagged.

Mayweather is going to be moving all night and looking for a shot and Oscar is going to be laying back and trying to time him. Otherwise when Mayweather moves Oscar is going to follow.

To be effective Oscar needs to have his feet set. And against Mayweather he couldn't hope for it.

Mayweather has much more speed then Mayorga.

And don't flame me for it but Judah had more speed then Oscar too especially at 147 when Oscar is at 154 now.

So I think that Mayweather is going to take this fight on the facts that I just mentioned.

    What do you think?

i respect your opinion and yea you have valid points, but also like you said the fights at 154, and Mayweather wasn't as fast as he used to be at 147, IMO the move from 140 to 147 slowed him down a bit, still super fast but not as fast as he was in the lower weight classes remember De La Hoya is very good on his feet and can effectively move after Mayweather without giving up his position, also mayweather snr. is one of the best defensive trainers in the game today, if anyone can help him set up a defensive gameplan it's him

Mayweather Sr is going to tell Oscar to do what Forrest did to Mosley and time him.

The question is, does Oscar still have the reflexes and the speed to time Mayweather's shots and feints. If he cant then thats it for him.

I don't think Mayweather will come in at 154 I expect him to be 149 at the weigh in.

But I don't think the weight will be a factor.

Remember Roy Jones in his first fight at 168 dethroned James Toney, so it's possible.

thanks for the heads up on the Gatti gloves. I still think a shoebox ring will give Oscar his biggest advantage. The ring in the Floyd/Baldo fight looked like ropes strung around a basketball court.

I have to look at this two ways.
If we are to believe that Edward Brittle hands did indeed injure his right hand against Baldomir, then Oscar's plan should work. How? Again if we are to believe PBF did hurt his hand after throwing 3 right hands then Oscar has the advantage and I guess Oscar is hoping that with the harder gloves, PBF will either re-injure it or he will be reluctant to throw it. I don't believe PBF hurt his right hand, He may have felt some discomfort but I think he is saving himself for the May 5th. fight, some how he knew he would face De La Hoya. If Edward did not hurt his right hand then Oscar is going to get taxed with it but Oscar is hoping Edward does injure it and then Oscar will be all over Edward like white on rice and he and his corner will have to watch very closely and not miss out on the opportunity like Baldomir did who didn't start swinging for the fences and selling out until the very last round.
So, as soon as Edward does hurt his hand, Oscar should just jump all over Floyd and knock his punk azz out.

I remember not too long ago when I was reading the topics here people were saying that Cotto suffered a "boxers injury" to his hand in the Malignaggi fight and that it was the only reason he didnt KO him and that he had to be passive in order to do that.

So why is Mayweather a punk for having to do the same?

You missed my point or you misunderstood my post.

What I said was that Oscar and Oscar's corner need to be vigilant for the injury and then jump all over it.
Speaking of Cotto, Pualie said had he known Cotto's hand was injured, he would have pounced on Cotto more. The missed opportunities of Paulie and Baldomir.

Simple,Cotto nearly broke Paulie's face with the force of his blows and he would be passive for the odd round,he still nearly koed Paulie in the 12th...PBF threw a handful of shots and they looked more like potshots than his usual stinging shots....I thought he just used it as an excuse really. I didn't see him land many on Baldo's head either...
