Default Just watched De La Hoya - Quartey again and...

In preparation for the Wink-Quartey fight I watched the ODLH-Quartey and I have several things to mention for anybody that cares.

-I talk a lot of shit about ODLH but wow, that was an awesome fight. It had the perfect mix of everything. I don't know how anyone could say they didn't LOVE that match. When you want to turn someone on to boxing using fighters that still fight, this should be the match you show them.

-I still don't know what the judges were smoking that night. I guess 116-112 is close but Larry Merchant had Quartey winning the fight and I had the same score as Harold Lederman, 114-113 Quartey. I guess some of the judges gave a couple of those mid rounds to ODLH. It was a close fight, so, ehhh.

-Quartey just can't catch a break, can he? He didn't get the decision he deserved in this fight, he decisively lost against Vargas, and he got absolutely screwed against Forrest in retaliation to the World Cup this year. He's probably the most underrated welterweight in a long time. I'm absolutely surprised he was able to withstand ODLH's fury at the beginning of the final round and last until the end of it. Nobody talks about Quartey's heart.

-Good lord, if Larry Merchant is in love with Wlad, then George Foreman would pay money to swallow ODLH's semen. He's obviously biased towards some fighters. I can still remember how he basically gave B-Hop no credit the entire Trinidad fight until Felix was looking at the stars.

-WOW!!! Michael Buffer from 1999 is at least six or seven times better than the current Michael Buffer.

    Anybody remember this great fight?

For the thread, just last night I watched it before I went to sleep, one of my fav. fights....

    It's no surprise I'm a ODLH fan.
Some people say ODLH got robbed against Tito, some people say he didnt.
Some people say Ike got robbed against ODLH, some people say he didnt.

It's just the way PEOPLE and JUDGES see these close fights....

Take JMM vs. Jaca the other night despite JMM beating Jaca in my socre card on ALL rds. Ledderman and Steward both had given Jaca 2 rds. coming into the 7th rd.

After the 2nd accidental headbutt in rd. 7 Steward makes the following statement:

"If they go to the socrecards because of what I've seen, JMM still could win the fight possibly.

I mean I almost went through the roof, I was like could & possibly ? ? ? Hes won EVERY single round...

Sure enough when they revealed the judges score cards JMM had won every round....

Yeah I love that fight too.

It's an annoying paradox to me that despite my loathing of all things Golden I still think he has been in some great fights.

As nauseatingly perfect Oscar is he is one hell of an exciting fighter to watch.

It was a very close fight if I recall, maybe Oscar JUST shaded it with the storming final round but what annoyed me was that even if Oscar had of lost that round the judges would have still had him ahead in the fight.

Quartey is very underrated much the same as Casamayor has been. It will be interesting to see if Icke can hold his own against Winky.

Personally I'd love to see him win but I really don't see him having much chance at all against Wright.

It's about as likely as Ouma upsetting Taylor the following weekend.
